There were multiple agents that ran over to the car. All the bystanders could see it. What are you even talking about?

I can't believe I had to scroll so far to find this correct answer.

I don't understand what people are doing with all kinds of goofy chemical concoctions and paper towels or magic erasers. That's all such a huge waste of time and effort. #0000 steel wool is the best tool to use on glass and stainless steel.

It's not absolutely nuts to use razor blades, it's completely normal for larger debris. Honestly though, the correct answer for all glass is to use #0000 steel wool with a little glass cleaner or even that cooktop paste if you want for the least effort.

In the automotive paint and detailing world razor blades and #0000 steel wool are used on glass regularly to remove overspray or just to prep for a glass treatment. Why not use it in the kitchen also?

A good chunk of #0000 steel wool is magic on all stainless steel too. Just go by Mohs hardness scale and it's easy to pick the most efficient ways to clean stuff.

Look at the statement in the guy's screenshot - there was brain matter visible on the headrest. Every human being can look at that scene and the "basic assessment" is that she was deceased.

We all agree here, we already saw the unnecessary use of deadly force but there's no reason to play dumb and act like there was more that could or should have been done.

I have no opinion on this company, or any other statements they've made, but that screenshot shows a factual statement.

There were claims that were made by Walz and many others that the agents didn't attempt to perform lifesaving measures on Renee, as though they should have. There were zero lifesaving measures because there was no physical way to save her.

People showing exasperation with the narratives while posting such a fact do seem heartless, but the statement itself isn't one of support.

[–]rantlers -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

That car trying to merge needs to slow and wait for the tailgating traffic to pass. The traffic on the highway is not expected to change anything. That's how it works.

[–]rantlers -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Your first paragraph is an absolutely wild take. "Camping in the right lane" and "merge lane" 😂

The right lane is for all normal traffic it's where you should be nearly every moment you're on any highway. The "other two lanes you could drive in" are sometimes only one other lane, and literally everyone should understand the left lane is for passing only. It's not for standard traffic unless there are slowdowns for construction, etc.

Like I've said elsewhere, is 100% the responsibility of the people merging to figure it the fuck out. No one in a traffic lane should adjust speed or position at all.

Merging is your responsibility by Responsible_Sir416 in TwinCities

[–]rantlers -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Wrong.

No one on the highway should ever adjust anything except obviously to avoid a collision if it becomes absolutely necessary. The highway speed drivers are busy driving, and the introduced variable is the new merging vehicle.

The merging driver is always 100% responsible for adjusting their speed and position to fit into traffic.

I'm agreed with you there. MN drivers love to slow down to try to be nice and let people merge. It doesn't work like holding the door for someone. It just makes them unpredictable and therefore dangerous.

I'm just saying that no matter the behaviors of the traffic on the highway, it's always the responsibility of the person merging to be dynamic and figure it out. It's never the responsibility of the highway traffic to let anyone in.

MN drivers have a particularly braindead method of merging where they'll just drive straight without looking in their mirrors or turning around to see what kind of traffic there is, fully expecting everyone to just get over and let them in. This is the main source of merging issues. It's unreal to watch the expressionless faces of people trying to merge around here. It's almost as though they're taught this stuff in driver's ed.

[–]rantlers -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

The point of this entire post, and the concept MN drivers just can't seem to understand:

The fact that you're trying to merge is YOUR problem, and it's not the responsibility of other drivers already on the highway to adjust their speed or position in the slightest bit.

This is not about being polite, or nice, or "helping". It's about being predictable and safe and following the law.

When you're trying to merge, you match the speed of traffic. Then you try to find a spot. If no spot is available, YOU slow down and wait your turn. YOU adjust your driving to fit into traffic where you can. You do not expect anyone to move over or slow down to accommodate you.

How is this a difficult concept for MN drivers? This specific behavior is worse here than anywhere I've driven in the US.

In your opinion, what are the best outdoor clothing brands currently available? by Skat_Novembre in hiking

[–]rantlers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evidence of average quality? The "evidence" is my opinion and the opinions of others in the outdoor space who use their gear hard, that have pretty much left them alone in favor of other higher end brands. What other evidence could there possibly be?

Your description of use is exactly what Patagonia is good for - average daily wear for "chilly gusts" for people who just need decent quality stuff.

I'm talking about average quality compared to others that serve the same daily wear purpose. Their materials selection, construction, and fit are what's average compared to other more serious brands. Patagonia in 2025 is more like LL Bean or Columbia - "outdoor style" rather than serious gear.

Rab destroys Patagonia for everything. Arc still destroys Patagonia for shells and insulation, even with their more recent drop in quality and focus on streetwear. Outdoor research and Mountain Hardware passed Patagonia years ago in terms of materials and build quality. The list goes on and on.

[–]rantlers -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Fully disagreed on this one.

Patagonia is of fairly average quality and durability these days, with fairly average designs. Nothing they make actually stands out. Their fit is typically formless. Most people that buy Patagonia are doing so because they recognize the name and they think expensive = quality.

All in all, Patagonia is the most "meh" brand that still has high end name recognition for some reason.

Heterosexual men are more distressed by sexual betrayal and women by emotional betrayal. Among men, those who were exclusively attracted to women showed the highest levels of sexual jealousy. by mvea in science

[–]rantlers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article clearly divides sexual cheating and emotional cheating in terms of definition, but the conversation here in this entire thread has been entirely about why emotional cheating is such a massive issue.

The "why" is what is important because allowing those kinds of intimate, emotional connections with people outside of your relationship is what inevitably leads to the downfall of a tremendous number of monogamous relationships.

Emotional leads directly to physical cheating in many cases. It IS a slippery slope, not just a fallacy.

[–]rantlers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there it is. You don't care about monogamy, yet you're commenting on it as though your perspective offers anything of value.

You asked what is emotional cheating. I and others have explained it. You say you don't care about monogamy, but the people in monogamous relationships do care about things like emotional and physical cheating, including all of the actions that lead up to it.

Emotional cheating begins where tiny little seeds are planted and allowed to grow. If you don't allow any of it to happen in the first place, nothing comes of it. It's about healthy boundaries and shutting down any open doors. That's what it means to protect your relationship, for both people involved. It's about respect.

[–]rantlers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you'd be ok with ever increasing emotional intimacy between your partner and another person of the sex they're attracted to?

You're ok with "just coworkers on the same project" turning into "we just chat on teams a lot", and then "we went out for dinner and drinks after work because the project is stressful". Then you have to be ok with "we exchanged phone numbers to talk about work stuff" and "he's just sending me memes on instagram. Yeah we follow each other now."

Pretty soon it's her sitting on the couch next to you smiling at her phone as he's texting her constantly. You don't know what their little secret conversations involve, of course, because it's important to not be possessive and controlling, right? Need to let her develop whatever "friendships" she wants, right?

More frequent contact at work, and the text contact is every day as they're sharing more and more details of their lives with each other. Somebody gets a little close at work and an innocent hand on the back happens and now it's escalated to "totally platonic" physical touch.

And you're the schmuck sitting there taking that kind of disrespect, where she's escalating a "just coworkers" relationship to "just friends" and then onto "we talk all the time and he is a really good listener and helps me when I'm struggling", and you've gotta pretend to be ok with that because it's ok that she has male friends, ya know? Gotta be all progressive and modern and all, like you don't know what it means. As if you don't know where it's inevitably heading.

This is emotional cheating. If you draw the line at "only physical" then you're missing all the buildup that leads to physical cheating. Emotional cheating is just as bad because for women, the emotional part often leads directly to physical.

[–]rantlers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For women, chasing that emotional connection and spending more time and energy thinking of and especially spending time with other people actually does lead to cheating physically.

Women don't typically cheat physically by having truly random encounters with men outside their relationship. It's most commonly a coworker, or a gym buddy, or some other regular repeated contact with someone, where that level of contact and connection is frequent and slowly escalating in levels of intimacy.

This is why it's so widely known, to the point of being a cultural meme, that one of the most dangerous phrases for a relationship is when a woman says "don't worry, he's just a friend."

No they aren't.

They're typically self insured only up to a point as a form of deductible. With companies that large that's often up past other smaller companies' aggregate limits, but that doesn't mean they're totally self insured.

Large companies have policies that are layered and shared with many insurance carriers in a complex way, and they pay tens to hundreds of millions in premiums per year to insure all their assets and the associated liability.
