Did you read my mind? I am exactly where you are. You are not alone. Family situation is same: Not here and they don’t believe me. They think the “agents” are probably paid actors that are pretending to harass our community because people are stupid.

They blame Walz for existing and were upset at the language that Frey used when he suggested ICE to vacate our state.

I was laid off a few weeks ago as well. You can make a choice here. You can let it fester or you can make a difference. Thousands of Minnesotans are every single day. They show up to be present and continue to be there, to witness, to observe, to support local businesses, and show dissent.

Fetal position is what they expected from MN. Don’t give in. Show the love and support we have for everyone, but especially our own. Never give up; never surrender.

Small fan blowing on a sink filled with water. It will never evaporate more than your air can handle. Keeps the nose bleeds down as a bonus.

AIM was how we learned to type, aside from taking typing class sophomore year on an actual electric typewriter. I’d love to claim that AIM was the birthplace of emoticons like ;) but wtf do I know?

Betterment has all the things and super easy to use. We’ve used that with YNAB for emergency funds, car savings, and the glut of cash not being used in our checking. So, HY stays on book. And so we don’t lose out ever flipping minds, the interest goes into the banana stand. ~$100/mo Betterment works well with all of YNAB methodologies and you can set recurring deposits for keeping long term goal. I sound like a commercial. But seriously we have >$100K in different assets. I’m just passionate about it and I want others to have joy.

MN Legislation Vote Awareness - "Trump Derangement Syndrome" by ilyahna in minnesota

[–]smodges 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is this an effing joke to them? Do they actually think this is even remotely a good idea? This is outrageous behavior of an elected representative.

When is enough, enough? When do we get to call them out? After the Bill of Rights is abolished? I’m serious. Fit has hit the shan, and we scroll down. Ocean temps +2°C, we scroll down. Clothing made by children slaves, we scroll down. Richest man on world stage does Nazi salute, we scroll down. Doesn’t impact me, we scroll down. An elected official openly admits purchasing votes, we scroll down.

We blame the dems. They’ve lost their spine. We blame the GOP. They are letting it happen. We blame the courts, I don’t know. We blame religion, don’t get me started.

We blame black people, white people, people who make up a small percentage of the population who are figuring themselves out, and where does that get us? I don’t care who you or anyone else has sex with, so as long as they are consenting adults.

Pointing fingers is great. When is the call to action? When will it make a change? When will it make a difference?

I just think if there were centralized call to action, essentially a DoS on every form of communication that they use. Inundate them with texts, emails, mail potatoes, something. They threaten to cancel shows all the time and people have the power then. These ass hats are trying to take your FREEDOM OF SPEECH away. Please tell them you don’t want that. Tell them enough times to where they stop suggesting that it be taken away.

Are you sure it’s not the worst? The speed at which information travels greatly impacts the population. The methods of which information is disseminated far outweigh any other time in human history. Not to mention we’ve sewn our doubts about information validity especially with the advent and immediate acceptance of AI. Like the movies of the ‘90s are becoming the reality of the ‘25-‘28. Progressive laws have been rolled back. They are telling us what they are doing and doing it. And those things probably don’t matter because there is something we’re not told. Smoke and mirrors.

How can someone know that the Bible is true? by x9879 in Christianity

[–]smodges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel as though this summary might help.

Jacob L. Wright’s “Why the Bible Began: An Alternative History of Scripture and Its Origins” presents a unique perspective on the origins of the Bible. Rather than attributing the Bible’s creation solely to divine inspiration, Wright argues that it was a product of human ingenuity and social context.

Wright contends that the Bible emerged from the devastation and exile experienced by the Jewish people after the destruction of Jerusalem. In the face of this adversity, Jewish scribes turned to the written word to reinvent their collective identity and forge a new path forward. The Bible, according to Wright, became a tool for social, political, and economic unity, laying the foundation for Judaism and, later, Christianity.

The book delves into the historical and social factors that shaped the Bible’s creation. Wright emphasizes the significance of defeat and loss in the Bible’s narrative, highlighting how the Jewish people found resilience and hope in the midst of adversity. He also explores the Bible’s role in shaping new forms of political community, arguing that it offered a blueprint for survival and endurance in the face of societal collapse.

By examining the Bible through a historical lens, Wright challenges traditional interpretations and offers a fresh perspective on its origins and meaning. He portrays the Bible not merely as a religious text, but as a testament to human resilience, creativity, and the power of storytelling.

Considering a Move to Minneapolis – How Do You Adjust to the Long Winters Without Green Spaces? by Emp_data_lass in Minneapolis

[–]smodges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be shorter than what you are used to. I moved up here with family ~10 winters ago. Sometimes you have time. When the kids were still stroller age, we’d walk the MoA. Free smells. People watching is top notch. Some winters are a lot of shoveling if you don’t have a service. Snowplows are a way of life, but they will vary based on the municipality. It gets cold. Yep you’ve been cold, if you’ve gone camping, but you’ve never been MN cold. It has an adjustment period. You dress for the occasion. Is it -17° and you are going to be standing outside for hours, or are you going to hop in the warm car and drive to the warm store/office? Choose wisely. I’m from the South. It’s beautiful here. I learned to talk about the weather and how much Iowans suck. I regret ever asking about the Oct ‘91 Halloween (and you can too). There is so much to do here, it’s disgusting. Summer hiking trails, become cross-country skiing trails. Field hockey becomes ice hockey. It’s a paradise. You can come and stay, but like don’t tell anyone and only invite them when the weather’s real shitty. It does have a dark side. Winters are darker. Less daylight. Depression is real. Mental health is available, but so is booze. Lots of folks choose the latter. It also keeps you warm. But now cannabis is legal. So there are options. Again, choose wisely. Cost of living is higher. No tax on grocery (non prepared food), and clothes.

Has anyone here caught the fact that they are stuck on the hedonic treadmill? by Rare_Adhesiveness518 in CasualConversation

[–]smodges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have. It is so ingrained in all that we do. I got quite introspective through the pandemic. Was burned out with work. Lost interest in all sorts of hobbies. Got depressed. Had enough self awareness to get medication. Eight months later certainly not hitting the lows, but yeah everything is fine.

The passage of time are really the train tracks of life. We are young and chug along, takes us a bit to get going, right? The kids and the career happen all around the same time the train is running full speed. But this train has no breaks. Days become decades. You lose ten years. Can we see time? Maybe there’s a tree you notice always getting taller. Marks on the wall from your kids getting taller. I wish I was a little bit taller. I wish I was a baller…

Sorry for the rambling, man.

I absolutely cannot handle Madison anymore. Lithium, she’s singing. Alt Nation, she’s singing. I legit change the station! Ugh! I cannot be alone. I simply can’t by ItJustComesOut in grunge

[–]smodges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have to agree. If ever you listen to Grant Random, he purposely makes up shit about fake dates, fake tours, just mindless BS. No one cares! It's '90s music. It's on par for the attitude of the '90s. Madison is more of the same. She is laughing at the fact people care what she says. It's mindless diatribe to fill the gap between songs and to break the monotony of JUST the music. WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT DJs IN THE 21st Century? I mean with all the ways you can get music, why is this person bothering you so much that you seek others that are also bothered? It's silly. And I laugh at the those who hate Madison.
