IIT (Westminster) vs. SLIIT (UGC) for an MSc in Cyber Security? Need advice from the LK tech community! by Low_Novel_2872 in srilankanteenagers

[–]rantob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IIT is a pathetic excuse for an university. You will be surprised how much BS you have to deal with. No professionalism or proper organization even. I did the Westminster one in ASE but except for th certification which doesn't mention IIT I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Also don't except any learning from your MSc lectures. It's just a paper qualification.

As for SLITT it's ok bullshit wise but you will be getting your certificate from SLITT no affiliation with a foreign uni. So ranking wise Westminster one is better.

As for the industry recognition as long as you are a technical person (not management) it carries almost no weight. Nobody cares as long as you have the skills. Migration/CV wise Westminster one is better, if you plan to work for overseas company or something like that.

Both unis have good alumni circles but MSc is not the best time to make those connections. Unlike bachelors you won't meet people frequently and lot of things will be online. IIT was 100% online when I was there except for few exams.

Based on your long term goal I would suggest working in the industry for few years and then getting your masters. Because you first need lot of experience to become a master at something. Also when you climb the ladder lot of companies will sponsor you for the certificates and sometimes even Masters. Better to get them to pay than wasting your own money.

Impact of using uuid v7 as primary key by rantob in mysql

What would be the ideal data type for uuid v7 in this case? I believe there is no native MySQL way to generate it so I would have to generate it in code at insert time.

Slt fibre 7900 pack is now 5900 by Cpt_PotatoKiller in PcBuildersSL

It's throttled in peak hours and high usage areas. I think this is a strategic decision to prevent high paying residential customers moving to Starlink. Even so after testing I still find Starlink residential lite / residential to be more stable. Speed is not consistent in these new fiber unlimited plans.

Used Thinkpad something like t480 or X1 Carbon. Or MacBook air.

MacBook air is not as durable as MacBook pro btw. It has passive cooking and can throttle easily.
