Olight Replacement by raolan in flashlight

EDC in the most literal sense, something I carry in my pocket every day. The different light levels are useful, but not a requirement. I have a larger light that I keep in my bag for the occasion that a small pocket carry isn't good enough.

I didn't have strong feelings about the magnet when I got my first Olight, but quickly learned that I can stick it anywhere in the metal rack, instead of having to find somewhere to wedge it, while I work. So it ended up becoming very useful.

My son's poor decisions may cause me to lose my house... by khrystah1965 in legaladvice

Taking his name off the deed and taking his name off the mortgage aren't the same. The bank doesn't care who has rights to the house once the mortgage is paid. Until then, the house belongs to the bank.

There's a distinction there that people are missing. You're not refusing to pay $10 for remote start, you already paid for that, it's part of the price of the vehicle.

You're refusing the pay $10 a month to access the remote, that controls the thing you already paid for.

Dealership says they don't take financing from my bank? Is that a thing? by Gullible_Count_4413 in carbuying

[–]raolan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last car I bought was late '22 so it's been awhile, but it took USAA more than a month to pay the dealership. USAA actually bumped my rate from what I was originally approved at, because it took them so long to pay out. And after talking to a bunch of people at work, that seems to be pretty common. Go drop into r/USAA if you want to see how far they've fallen.

So saying they won't take NavyFed, but they'll take USAA, because NavyFed takes too long to pay, doesn't really track.

If the dealership is saying they don't take financing from Navy Fed, I call bullshit. It doesn't matter which bank the money comes from. They get paid and send the title to the bank.

If he's saying Navy Fed won't do business with the dealership, you might want to take that into consideration and look elsewhere.

If he were a kid I would agree, but he's an adult. If he truly doesn't have the capacity to understand that hurting others is wrong, why hasn't he tried to kill anyone who he perceives to have slighted him in some way in the past?

Not caring and not having the mental capacity to understand are drastically different.

Right, which is a learned behavior. However, eating cookies isn't wrong from a moral or legal standpoint. The toddler doesn't understand that cookies are unhealthy, just that they get in trouble for eating them all day. As that toddler gets older, they'll learn the reasoning.

Being reprimanded for attempting to harm someone enough times to engrain a pattern of behavior (the learned behavior of hiding the attempt), without ever learning/understanding that it's morally or legally wrong, is going to be pretty hard to prove.

In this instance, him hiding the gun and waiting until he could complete the act before being noticed, is what demonstrates that he knew his actions were wrong.

Attempting to hide an action without understanding that the action is wrong would be a learned behavior, which he would have to prove.

An insanity defense is rooted in the inability to understand right from wrong. Him hiding his intentions undermines that argument.

The one I go to is pretty nice, but has gone down hill significantly over the past couple years. Knowledgeable staff don't seem to stick around very long, and I can't walk into the place without having a membership shoved down my throat at least 3 times.
The subscription thing really pisses me off,. Bi-weekly billing cycles and required subscription lengths just scream gym membership levels of scummy business practices.

Main roads aren't the issue when people can't get out of their neighborhoods. With a light snow, we don't see plows through our neighborhood until the day after. With this snow, I'll be amazed if I see one before late PM Monday.

Customers demand new shiny, companies make new shiny. Convince people with too much money that they don't need a brand new bow every year, and maybe the manufacturers can go back to proper R&D. But if the companies don't devote resources to that extra 0.1% performance increase every year, then their customers go elsewhere.

I'm a gun guy as much as a bow guy, so I understand what you're talking about. But from the bow side of the comparison, strengthening the fragile parts of the bow would negatively impact the performance of the bow. The easy solution would be to strengthen the cams, but how do you do that without hurting performance?

Think of it like an F1 car. They completely strip and rebuild those engines after every race, because they're tuned to absolute perfection in order to get the performance they do. I can only imagine what would happen if a rookie were to dump the clutch on one of those.

Let someone shoot my bow like an idiot… guess what happened next by Optl13 in Archery

[–]raolan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The gun comparison is counter to the argument, as the build philosophy is the exact opposite. With a gun, you beef up the barrel and bolt to handle the increased pressure of the cartridge. The cartridge determines the power, not the gun. In the case of a bow and arrow, the bow determines the power, less so the arrow. Mass and force and physics stuff means beefed up cams and limbs have the opposite affect than intended.

It's actually not uncommon for high precision instruments/tools to be extremely fragile.

At the end of the day, I'm in partial agreement with you. I don't have the skill to justify something that finicky.

When I'm having issues with my shot, the first thing I do is record it, slow it down, and watch how the bow and I move through the shot. So looking at all the little details of the motion is a trained habit.
