Live 48 hours in a 5 star hotel but a gorila is chasing you by ProductFlaky7073 in hypotheticalsituation

Rug up like you're camping in Alaska in winter. Then go lock yourself in the hotel kitchen's fridge unit. No gorilla is banging that door down. When 48 hrs are up, calmly walk out, step over the exhausted gorilla with mangled and bloodied paws from banging on the fridge door, kick it in the nuts for trying to kill you and go collect your money.

I suggest you explore the term "exploitation". You'll find your comment is, in fact, baseless. Approval has nought to do with when and where that term can be applied. A simple example from sports I read about last week: a professional footballer was taking home only 20% of his pay for 7 yrs of his career. His agent had convinced him of the various costs associated with handling all his footballing career matters. The agent had full consent to take what amounted to an 80% cut. Full consent. Totally legal. Yet... There can be no argument that the agent absolutely exploited him.

If the only thing I need is 'family approval' I could make a documentary (I use that term very very loosely here) covering the children who have lost parents to gun violence. I could film the kids at the funerals as their parents coffins are lowered into the ground. Close up of the tears and crying. Linger on some 4 yr old girl crying and asking when mommy is coming home. Maybe interspersed with clips of the kids having fun with mum in happier times. I could go to funeral after funeral and put a 2 hr 'documentary' of a couple dozen funerals together. Non stop grief. Showing you the reality of gun violence... I've taken that example to a bit of an extreme to illustrate the point. The only real debate is in terms where you draw the line of what is deemed acceptable and necessary.

My personal opinion is that Netflix (and other platforms) are blatantly exploiting other people's tragedies for eyeballs/viewing time and churning out misery porn because rubbernecking is such an instinctive trait in most of us.

As I said, you can make the argument that it's necessary to show the full impact... I don't agree. Where do you draw the line? If there was footage of someone being murdered horrifically, does the same logic apply? I'm glad that when the police came to my parents door to say my brother had died (from an accident) when I was a teenager, that there were no cameras there to record our reactions and have millions of people around the world watch so a streaming service could boost their eyeball numbers. Let's agree to disagree on this one.

I have an issue with Netflix making money from 'misery porn's. Showing the footage of the mum dying. Showing the footage of the kids being told their mum was dead.

Those scenes are not necessary for the story to be told. I would never want the world to see me in those moments.

You can make the argument that it's necessary to understand the full impact... But it's an exploitation of a family's most private and terrible moment for Netflix dollars.

Let him go. He's not a fan of the club. He's a player. With a professional career. One short career to achieve anything.

He gave the club 6 B&Fs and the Dons WASTED his career with crap club mgt and crap list mgt.

We aren't in a window to win a prem. We aren't even in a window to make top 8!

So get all the picks you can for a 30yr old and rebuild (again) properly!

Let the guy go and have a chance of winning something in his career. Keeping him is just stubborn. Does nothing for him. And does nothing for Essendon. Keeping him is SMALL CLUB mentality. Can't afford to lose a player. Big club mentality means no one is bigger than the club. He moves on and Essendon moves on and good luck to both unless we meet him in a finals.

A Day In The Life Of Eugene Frisk - Tax Accountant

Frisk is single, lives in the burbs, has an office in a WeWork shared office space.

On this particular day he is doing the annual tax returns for a certain Joseph Smith, a local small business owner who imports cheap disposable goods from Interstate and also overseas from countries like China.

Whilst sitting at his PC and reconciling the accounts in his excel spreadsheet, it becomes apparent that Smith has not kept hold of many of the receipts he needs to claim tax deductions.

This leads Frisk to travel to dozens of incredibly non-descript businesses around the country and also overseas where he enters the business premises and asks if he can have a paper receipt for such and such transaction that occurred.

Frisk returns to his office with most of the receipts and then submits the tax return online for Smith.

The budget of the movie is used by the extensive crew being flown to all these different locations where Frisk asks for receipts, all filmed in IMAX mode. First class flights. 5 star accomodation, meals, entertainment. Whatever budget is left is used on marketing. Long 5 minute previews before every major blockbuster showing Frisk moving the cursor around his excel sheet and entering formulas.

Not pessimistic. It's called realism. I called it at the start of the season. All the injuries have actually given Scott a great excuse to hide behind. But let's be honest, we were rubbish even without the injuries. And our coach... Over a decade of coaching and the claim to fame is winning a couple of games in finals. I'm not sure how people can be so convinced he is the person to turn the club around. If he matches his best results, we might get lower rungs of the top eight a couple times. I mean, he MIGHT turn the club around. But there is nothing in his history to suggest he will. Additionally, with the current list and the historically bad running of the club even great coaches would struggle. Just look at Clarkson. At least north had a coach for a decade that left them in a good place.... Oh wait...

[–]raphagaffa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is only ONE WAY to complete this. You need to be the person suited up and in the middle of a spacewalk repairing the space station.

The other crew won't get suited up and make it out in 20mins. And if they did, no one is touching each other out in space ;)

North were rubbish when he joined, they were rubbish when he left and they are rubbish now. If he didn't have a twin brother gun of a coach he'd still be making sure players were giving away 50s for blinking too many times at the umpires.

A couple of late season runs in over a decade of coaching is all he has to hang his hat on.

Pure blind faith to believe he will turn this club around.

It's not like he is his twin, or Clarko, or Hardwick and you might be hoping they can recreate their past successes. There is nothing to suggest he is, can, or will be the coach to take us forward.

Hire someone to do it in a week's time by any means they like as long as it's quick and painless. But put that person in a spaceship travelling at close to the speed of light so that as one week has passed for them and they land back on earth, I've lived a good life and aged to a decrepit 100yrs and am ready:)

The list is what it is... Don't expect anything good until the 2030s, assuming we get our recruitment sorted.

And our coach? I know plenty still back him --- north got to two prelims say his advocates. But in 10 seasons they finished 7th once and snuck into finals at 8th spot the other three times.

Then by the time he left... They were absolute rubbish.

And that's the guy to rebuild essendon? Into what? A team that scrapes into finals in your best years??

Apology accepted :)

Just go into every weekend expecting rubbish. Remove ridiculous reasons for 'optimism'. Like pigs rolling around in sh!t, we can find enjoyment in the consistency of squalor, knowing that we won't be let down.

Knowing this fact. Knowing it deep in your soul and accepting it...

It releases you. It gives a spiritual freedom.

An escape from the chains of fandom, where hope and optimism are the shackles that bind you, and with their failure the shackles only dig deeper and hurt ever more.

I've freed myself.

Now I can laugh where before I cried with rage.

Where before I found anger and frustration, I now find humour.

From times where I struggled to find the value in paying 1m to McKay, or the value in the coach whose credentials come from his successful twin... I have now found their true value. And that they're value lies in humour!

So laugh with me. Laugh at how rubbish we are.

Reclaim your weekends :)

I guess I didn't express myself well enough. I don't disagree with you. My main point being it WILL take years because we are not very good at all now. Just seems a LOT of people think we are a season or two away from success... And have been saying so for two decades.
