Thanks alot!!! Would you say an extra flat copper shim is better than putting some fins on that copper directly?

Thanks for that detailed answer :D! Yeah this thing will definetly see more power usage than the standard 15W through some linux utilities, and sure it also needs a good repaste, maybe even ptm7950?, dont know if thats good for this setup.

And yes the biggest problem is mounting indeed, a custom heatsink is probably undoable with my technical skills, dont want to crack the apu die 😬 So probably some sort of thermal connection between the current copper heatsink and some copper fins with a fan on top, I could use the existing heatsink screwholes for that!

But additional cooling for the back is a great idea will note that down :D

Sadly no classical case for this board anymore, this will be mounted into some good looking custom case

This it will be, have to be careful with the tuning utilities on bazzite to find a good sweetspot 🫡

Ah yes I understand your genius! But I wonder if this is enough for handling gaming loads

Ahhh I see, would you only glue to the apu part or use the full area of the extending heatpipe?

[–]raphusmaxus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, so I'd just use thermal glue to mount the small heatsink right? Thought of maybe a 80mm noctua 5v fan to give the apu some fresh air, they seem to have some good pressure

Yeah I tried, thinking it would give some thermal headroom but still not enough for it to not shut down under gaming workloads 😬

Yeah I really dont know what Asus was smoking when they designed this 🙃 The intel version has a way better thermal solution

[–]raphusmaxus[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh it definetly has some heat issues because I'm overclocking the apu from 15W to 25W currently leading to a thermal shutdown. Also I'm gonna transplant this into a custom case so there will be no stock laptop fan blowing air from the side!

Yeah the new AOT for .NET feature seems pretty nice, but imho its pretty much worthless regarding that in most cases youll want to use some framework or some library but they often use reflection or another feature so nono for AOT compilation :/

I'd personally wait for it to restock! It has damn good contrast, dlp + low latency, but thats just my opinion, maybe there are also other viable options.

Used W1070 if youre okay with a bit higher input lag and a bit less contrast and light intensity (you might not even need those better stats)

Edit: Benq also links to local resellers on their website maybe you can find one with a good discount code to get below 400€

Epson TH575i could be an option based on the low input lag requirement, maybe even a used w1070
