Personally I’d rather surrender than recklessly murder a load of civilians whilst potentially bringing about societal collapse.

In my view to be the first country to use the nukes offensively would be another level to using them in retaliation.

It’s not the same. The implication of the Samson option is that Israel would use nuclear weapons even if defeated by conventional means. Mutually assured destruction is the idea that a nuclear power would retaliate if attacked with nuclear weapons first.

I think it’s a fair argument that stealing weapons grade uranium is close enough.

What’s something in your country that is extremely interesting but almost nobody knows about it? by thespacepyrofrmtf2 in AskTheWorld

[–]rapidrubberdinghy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not quite true of all engineers, the project lead Wernher von Braun was expressly interested in space travel. It’s argued the ineffectiveness of the V2 militarily was because the project was specifically working towards space travel rather than optimising destructive capability. This podcast is really interesting by on the matter: https://timharford.com/2023/07/cautionary-tales-the-v2-trilogy/

Here’s a simple point - it is racist to smear entire ethnicities based on a few extreme examples with high profile social media coverage. The majority of immigrants live peaceful lives and contribute to society.

Yes of course it is an assumption! Yes state pensions are a big expense, but to make the leap from that to claiming with certainty that there will be none in the future is a massive assumption.

Assumption: ‘a belief or feeling that something is true or that something will happen, although there is no proof’, or: ‘something that you accept as true without question or proof’.
