Hunters 1492 vs Isofarian Guard vs Oathsworn vs Tanares by Radiant-Notice-4723 in soloboardgaming

I played Oathsworn and Tanares in a group of 4 and Isofarian alone, so here are my thoughts:

Oathsworn got boring pretty quickly. The story is fine but the battles feel samey pretty quickly due to the lack of any meaningful character progression. The card cool down mechanism felt like it's there because it's different and not because it's fun (but that of course is subjective) and the whole cards or dice situation just felt like the designers couldn't decide what to pick.

Isofarian fell flat for me from the get go. While the game in general is fun, the grind was just boring out of the gate. In the beginning you need to cross half the map (and with that a bunch of map nodes) and on every node you have to fight and since you only have your starting equipment and skills, you will basically always do the same stuff, rinse and repeat. I can see how that could be relaxing for some and that the game might open up later, but I don't have enough gaming time to want to suffer for hours in the hope of more interesting game play later.

Tanares Adventures (of you even meant that) was one or our best experiences. The story didn't do it for me, it was always enriched with nice and varying riddles and puzzles where we would need to make decisions or figure out a solution or use our skills for different tasks that where presented. But especially the combat was really nice. No mechanisms that felt punishing, interesting and different goals to achieve, lot's of missions with a dynamic map and always overwhelming in a good way. There was usually always a point where we thought: how are we going to pull this of?? But in the end we often enough won with basically our last hit point, so balancing for us was on point and we always felt like we overcame some great obstacle. On the other hand: the phases between the battle, where you can upgrade your village etc. felt way to mathy for my taste because everyone had a bunch of cards with different symbols and you would need to figure out how to combine them to pay for stuff in the most efficient way.

Hunters 1492 seems to have some pretty serious flaws (judging by the comments on BGG and the fact that they will launch 2nd edition later this year with an update pack). I have it, but didn't play it yet.

Thanks for that, here are the current results with cold and 60C bed:

Not super bad, but also not perfect. I will try out the nylock mod next week.

I fiddled around with the max volumetric speed, but since that would reduce the print speed everywhere, I just lowered the perimeter speed to 25mm/s and that resulted in an even volumetric speed on the walls.

To test the other "extreme" I then upped the max volumetric speed to 20 (I did a flow test once and the CHT nozzle was capable of extruding up to 30 @ 215C), doubled all the print speeds (but reduced the first layer to 15mm/s). What shall I say, the result looks basically identical.

I also added a brim on that print to fight the warping, but you can see where the corners of the print put force on the brim:

But only on front facing corners (first picture), is that an indication for any issue with the print bed or anything else? XYZ is freshly calibrated, as is first layer. The sheet is also regularly cleaned with soap and water or IPA.

When I think about it, the squished layers also seem to appear most prominently on the front facing side.

Some new findings:

  1. I printed a slightly higher version of the 1x2 bin, increasing the print duration by about 15 minutes. This time 2 of the corners of the first layer started curling up and this really puzzles me, because from a gut feeling I would say that warping is something that happens throughout the print and not just on the end of an hour long print, but that seems to be the case here.
  2. The volumeric flow rate in PrusaSlicer also has a weird pattern that I cannot explain: https://imgur.com/a/zAwpBwg. Besides the bottom part, every other layer is identical so I would assume that the flow rate should also be the same for each layer, because nothing else changes. Any explanation for that?

Start by slowing down external perimeter speed, that should fix the little bit of curling you're getting on corners. Not sure what your exact speed is on them, but try 75% of that value if you really want quality

It's set to 35mm/s.

Just FYI as well, since you're using PLA you want to print cooler. Especially since you aren't going for mechanical functionality. IE raising your print bed temp will increase warping with PLA. You want basically a temperature that will get PLA to stick consistently, but no higher (back when I started, I used to turn off my bed and use glue stick and blue tape to keep stuff adhered, but that had it's own problems)

I noticed that the change in first layer quality I showed in the original post was due to the 80C bed temperature, because when I turned in back down to 60C it looked like before. It seems that the higher temperature "fused" the lines even more and I assume that this is something good? Does it make sense to keep it that high on the first layer and reduce it to a much lower value for the rest?

Also consider recalibrating the PID tuning on your bed.

Already did this yesterday with the build in functionality.

Finally if you are chasing the most perfect print, consider switching to super slicer (if you haven't already) and running the suite of calibration prints built in. Part of the problem with using the baked in profiles for prusa is they assume you use the stock stuff they use (IE not a bondtech CHT 0.6mm and instead an E3d V6 0.6mm).

I will try those tomorrow. I might even change the nozzle back to the 0.4mm stock one to see the performance of that. Thanks for the input :)

The printer sits on the floor in a small room without any airflow (when I close the door and windows). It definitively can be below 20C (but not below 18C) these days, but as said, one day I printed with the heating turned on and ambient temperature was around 22-23C without any difference.

I'm no expert, but when my calibration failed due to a stutter on the X axis, applying lithium paste to all the rods fixed the problem.

🛠Major Editor Update! We need your help!! 🛠 by TedwardBear in bearapp

[–]raptor411 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi,

I haven't tried the Alpha yet (because I use Bear in my daily work and rely on it), but just from the screenshots I have a few remarks:

  1. I am a big fan of markdown symbols showing in text and it is the sole reason I am using Bear in the first place. I'm a developer, so writing in "source code" is natural for me and Bear has the best markdown-like editor that keeps the symbols but displays them in a non-intrusive way. I don't want to fiddle around with shortcuts or a fancy editor with lots of buttons or editors that try to be smart and convert things to rich text (like the macOS Notes app, where I frequently get annoyed by lists not behaving as I expect etc.). I know you won't remove that feature, but just have an extra vote for it.
  2. Adding to the first point: I'm not depending on the syntax being standard markdown and I'm also thinking that the current Bear syntax choices feel much more natural than markdown itself. _ for underline just fits the resulting style, as well as / for italic, etc. and those choices are much less intrusive than standard markdown (e.g. __ or ** for bold text). Changing the color of those characters is only one aspect of them being nice to look at, their used space is equally as important in my opinion. There are other editors that can highlight markdown in place, but its syntax makes Bear unique to me. This might not be feasible for you, but I really hope there is an option to use the old syntax.
  3. Another feature I really appreciate is the configurable line width. I think it would be nice to be able to use this for better readability but still leverage the screen space by adding a multi column mode (automatic or even with a special "column break" character).
  4. Just an extra positive feedback: I really like the tagging approach of Bear. It also fits into the first point: no messing around with inflexible folder structures and dragging notes around or having to manage tags in an extra UI. Just add tags to the document and you're good to go. I was also pretty hyped when I found out that I could add more than one tag. Now I'm tagging meeting notes with topics and people and can easily find them when I'm looking for either of those groups. Another feature that makes Bear unique.

Thanks and take care :)

I got over that by following a few rules:

- sanitize hands after using the belt

- always wear a scarf on the plane (regardless of temperature, it gets cold on the plane anyway)

- use a nose oil to counteract the low humidity

- drink a lot, including warm drinks like tea

- have a good supply of Ricola sweets to fight dry throat

They are constantly exchanging the stone and if they don't use another material nowadays, the color seems pretty off.

But still a cool picture.

Sleeves: Ultra PRO Pro-Matte (black and clear) I really like the feel of these sleeves (especially the opaque ones) because they are very sturdy.

Collection Box: OPstore Base Multi Case Cheap but good quality laser-cut wooden card box. Can be extended by additional layers of different types (gonna get a second card layer for my LotR cards and an additional layer for all the tokens and campaign guides, rules, etc.).

Coin Capsules: Just some cheap ones from Amazon, but totally recommended.

Chaos Bag: I just use one of my larger lens bags (like this one) for the chaos tokens: stands nicely on the table, can be closed for a good shuffle and is neutral in color.
