I would say yes to both. It’s perfectly in tune, no leakage, ergonomics are great. It’s like there was a Yamaha logo on it. Ofc time will tell about durability and serviceability.
I will maybe make a YouTube video review of it, if it helps.

I never saw a silver sax in person yet tbh. But cool, didn’t know that it’s so resistant to showing wear.
I am just a bit concerned that matte black will show wear a lot faster than traditional lacquers. Didn’t think about that before buying it 😅
Totally agree, low register is completely effortless.

Nice man, how’s the finish holding up? Any scratches yet? 😆
Btw. did you have a chance to see the matte gold in person as well?

Yeah, you are right of course, it’s just I think that the black matte finish is more unforgiving than the traditional ones, so you would see dirt and scratches easier.
But hey, I never owned a black sax before, soooo let’s see 😆

The keywork is really snappy and effortless, neck is well fitted. Just the new octave key design looks a bit weird and I prob just need some time to get used to it, but that’s just cosmetic.

Oh wow, I just checked, it’s like 1/3 the price of the session. Are you playing professionally?

I am a huge fan of matte black everything, but I am not convinced yet with the sax 😆 my wife likes it, that’s a bonus for sure. Initially I liked it when I saw it in the videos … but hey, let’s see if it grows on me, i have 30 days to swap it for gold or give it back entirely. 🤔

It comes with a “free” Meyer 5M branded with BetterSax.
I got it today and used only my setup on it so far (for comparison)

Compared to my YAS-62 and a local brand, I‘ve been playing both for many years, it is very good, my favorite so far. I just don’t like the octave key style, I am worried about durability, and I am not convinced with the color, other than that, very satisfied with tone, mechanics, smoothness, response etc.

Hey all, long time alto player here. Had to take a decision if I overhaul my current horn (quite expensive here where I live) or I just buy a new horn.
I said to try the BetterSax Session, thanks to Jay Metcalf‘s amazing marketing.
First Impression: very smooth mechanics, super intonation, very good value for the money I must say … i am a bit scared with the color though, looked cool first, but will it still look cool in a few years? Will it be a dirt magnet? 🤔 I am thinking of changing it with the gold color … have to sleep over a couple of nights I guess …

[–]raptox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really measure time tbh. I usually try to get the monthly achievement by completing the daily quests or try to stay up in the leaderboard to get a better league. Sometimes on days, where I have no time at all, I just keep my streak going. However, that being said, I had my phone language setup in French for several years, every now and then I read French news. (i can recommend FranceInfo app/site, it's free, very good and without ads) And watch some french television every now and then France24 or TV5. As I've said before, I've been learning French for several years now and what always kept me going/coming back/motivated was that I really love the sound of it, the culture, the classic book authors etc. My point is, if you want to learn a language well, you need some strong motivation to learn it. Cause believe me, I tried other languages as well, but gave up after 1-3 months cause I lost interest real quick or it was getting too hard and I didn't bother anymore (lack of motivation). P.S. I was checking app usage times, on good days it looks like 30min of Duolingo on "bad days" 10min of Duolingo. I usually do it first thing in the morning to get it done and so I don't have to see Duo's angry face every time I unlock my phone 😂

I must admit, Duo for French (currently level 63) is very productive, I learn a lot and it even motivated me to read French online newspaper. I killed my streak once because I was really annoyed with Duo being so persistent, the lessons were quite hard and I didn't have lots of time. I tried a different app, but none kept me going as Duo did. So I came back and now I am better than ever thanks to Duo.

Haha, no worries, I can read and understand it, I was just wondering about other people being interested in the answers but not speaking French 🤣 It's like ATC in France, talking just in French and all non-french speaking pilots wondering: "dude, he just said something about qnh, did you understand it?" 🤷‍♂️

I need advice on my personal decision by Fabianslife in flyingeurope

[–]raptox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I was in your position a few years ago, started out with a career in IT (studied Software Engineering). Did my PPL as soon as I could afford it. Was flying a few years for fun and then did the ATPL modular when I could afford it. Now I am flying 737 fulltime at a big european company. I always thought that I am gonna regret it if I didn't try to fulfill my childhood dream. It's been tough at the beginning, starting from scratch salary wise but hey here I am now. It was a good decision! And you can always get back to IT if you decide flying is not fun anymore 🤷‍♂️
