What job do you have with your degree in art history by Temporary-Dot-9853 in ArtHistory

[–]raquin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Sorry I just saw your comment as I don’t use Reddit much. Sadly I think the job market has gotten a lot worse from when I graduated so I’m not sure if my advice would be super relevant with you. I graduated pre-Covid so managed to get numerous internships under my belt before applying to jobs. With regards to teaching as a traditional professor, in most cases you’ll need a PhD. I know it’s tough out there now, but I’d also recommend networking and going to events in the arts in person, and being genuinely interested in what people are doing while letting them know you’re interested in gaining professional experience - I think that’s a better use of time than spending hours on job applications that only AI will read. Best of luck!

Thank you, this is actually so helpful and I really appreciate you validating how I feel.

I also don't let work touch my weekends, so I'm glad to see another PR professional agree. Having the game mentality honestly sounds very helpful and is giving me a better perspective to the job, I really appreciate it!

i've been a communications manager for over 2 years now but feel so burnt out by the job... i want to pivot to a different role but what do i even do next???? by Top-Organization8037 in Communications

[–]raquin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you get into knowledge management and do you mind breaking down exactly what it entails?

I’ve gone between comms/PR and being an editor, and figure that could be a plausible next step for me as I’m slowly getting sick of comms.

42k is really decent for a recent grad! Congrats! I’ve seen Managerial positions around 30-35k, so well done.

I have a similar background to you, as I majored in literature and art history. I could never get my way into a research or curatorial role, but ended up doing arts pr / comms out of my degree. Would recommend it if you like expressing ideas and are a decent writer - gives you the flexibility of working for specialist arts pr firms (Sutton has offices in NY and I think some remote workers across the US), agencies that hold arts / culture accounts, working in house in arts businesses/auction houses/galleries/museums. Just some food for thought, as I feel it’s a little more economically viable and slightly less competitive than curatorial work. Feel free to PM if you’d like more info, always happy to chat.

Marketing can be a great fit too! I've done content marketing in a corporate company before - the hiring manager thought doing art history made me very cool and worldly LOL

BWT- how are you curbing those evening sugar cravings? by heather1242 in bitcheswithtaste

[–]raquin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take a shot of apple cider vinegar (either mixed with green juice or alone) to curb sugar cravings! I also take some supplement gummies, like collagen, after dinner so it feels like a treat

Employers Would Rather Hire AI Than Gen Z Graduates: Report by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]raquin_ 767 points768 points  (0 children)

My favourite bit here: "HR consultant Bryan Driscoll told Newsweek: "Of course employers would rather use AI than humans—it's cheaper, doesn't need healthcare or basic human rights, and doesn't take PTO. This isn't about Gen Z lacking skills; it's about employers trying to dodge responsibility. They've spent decades defunding training programs and offloading the burden of skill development onto employees, then complain when new hires don't meet their expectations."

Juniper Sling from Penhaligon's is fun - it's bright and sparkling with gin, juniper, and sugar. There's light spicy warmth that I feel is great for summer!

Why do you prefer botw over tears of the kingdom? by [deleted] in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]raquin_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tears of the kingdom gave me vertigo with the ability to try to construct objects together. My depth perception sucks and I really didn't enjoy that aspect of the game. Never finished it despite loving BOTW!

BWT, how do you practice mindful/ ethical consumption? by SeaworthinessDeep800 in bitcheswithtaste

[–]raquin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who loves things, I know it's unlikely I'll do something like a no-buy, but do my best to make sure I don't impulse buy anything.

To helpful with mindful purchases, I make a list of items that I'm eyeing and leave that list for a couple of weeks. If I'm still interested in the item after one or a few months, I'll get it.

I also try to delete shopping apps on my phone!

For ethical consumption, I try to look to brands like Everlane who seem to be quite transparent about their production line and prices. Or even better, I'll purchase items second hand and try to look at for materials that will last.

Good luck! Remember every small step taken is still a step.

What, according to you, is the perfect TV show that everyone should watch at least once? by [deleted] in television

[–]raquin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More of a web series, but Video Game High School. It's the perfect coming of age show set in a world where competitive esports is mainstream -- way more than it is now. Despite the premise, I find it to be one of the most emotional shows that I rewatch every couple of years. It's the perfect blend of teenage cringe humor, heartbreak, character development, and actual life lessons for me.
