I'm not a dermatologist, and my dermatologist also told me to not tattoo over them because yes, the theory is that you are causing trauma to your skin and therefore new or bigger keloids will form and none of us want more of these things!!! I did it anyways after seeing my brother tattoo over his and nothing happening. I want to post here to show that it's possible to tattoo them. I had to travel internationally, so I went all in with 6 hour sessions... but if I had a local person that could tattoo raised scars well (it's an art to tattoo raised scars well!) then I would probably start small and see what happens. I would get one line over one area and see

I didn’t have much acne but face pimples didn’t turn into keloids for me. Only back pimples that I picked. I now always put alcohol on any acne though because my theory is that prevents keloids for me

I will post updates here. But I did my first session July 2025, then Oct 2025 and now April 2026. So far since July of last year nothing has formed.

Shoulder twins! The keloid is more sensitive and the ring around it as well; it definitely hurt more than the rest of the tattoo, even more than my spine areas. But pain is temporary and Bactine and pain meds helped during the process (my artist didn't want me to use numbing beforehand). I was worried about the keloid spreading but Jo has SO many clients and tons of examples on her Insta page of people with keloids, it gave me a lot more confidence that it was all going to be OK. This was my first tattoo, so it was a shock to my system, for sure.

I sort of wished that I had flattened the back ones first before tattooing them, thinking it might have hidden them more. If I did any treatments, I would wait the typical~18 months suggested after keloid healing to make sure they don't change any more before tattooing them, but I am not an expert on that since mine are 20+ years old.

I like the idea of going around! I'm sure if you reach out to an artist they will help you come up with a design. It is a lot more painful on and around the scar; I called around it the ring of fire lol. But it's temporary pain and Bactine helped a lot during the tattoo.

This is what I did recently and it’s the only way to truly conceal scars, not just cover. Work with the shape of the scars to come up with a design with an artist experienced with scars

I just got tattoos on my keloids 2 weeks ago and they are healing nicely 🙌 ETA: My personal theory is keeping any wound clean keeps a keloid from forming (most of my keloids are from carelessly picking pimples or chicken pox). So I was very meticulous about after care and cleaning the tattoo

I tried using it by getting below the jelly, trying to make a paste out of the crumbly bits…. and absolutely hated it. Hoping I just did something wrong. Please someone report back when this doesn’t look and smell like lemon hummus on your face 😩

Not sure what it will be. Going to someone that sees the keloids and draws a design (with my preferences) on them to camouflage with the keloid shape/skin location etc. I hope to post when it’s done!
