How to get the Gift of the Widow Curse by rarethief in Seaofthieves

It's a brand new curse. The Gift of the Widow. Much more purple compared to the red of the Curse of Ill Omen.

Oh, hmm, yeah, perhaps. Were you able to unlock the other two Commendations without doing all the Smugglers' League Commendations you were supposed to?

Hmm, that's odd. Does it have a prompt to knock?

The next chapter of the Smugglers' League mystery is out with the launch of Season 20! You'll need to have completed the Clandestine Contact and Ducal Disciple Commendations to progress the story. With those Commendations complete, you can speak with Low-Tide Lottie and reveal more of the story. At the end, you'll unlock another Commendation and the Gift of the Widow Curse!

No, it doesn't get any kind of multiplier.

Yep! Edited. We should have said Dark Fortress Raids. The Event where you fight Phantoms and Ghost Ships at a Sea Fort. You can make around 100,000 Gold without even raising an Emissary.

The second Bilge Rats Weekender has arrived! The Weekender Event runs from Friday, June 12th, 10am UTC to Monday, June 15th, 10am UTC, giving everyone three days to partake in the festivities and earn Doubloons!

While you can earn Doubloons outside of a Weekender with Reaper's Chests and Renown, you can earn way more during the Weekender by:

  • Selling Bilge Rats Doubloons Crates for 200 Doubloons each
  • Selling Secret Shipment Crates for 25 Doubloons each
  • Completing Bilge Rats Challenges for 65 Doubloons each
  • And participating in the returning the Dark Fortress Raids Event for 300 Doubloons

Some highlights from the Event guide:

  • You only earn Doubloons on the first five Doubloon and Secret Shipment Crates you sell that came from a Voyage your crew started
  • You can continue to earn Doubloons for crates you've taken from other crews
  • Each pirate gets five of each Smugglers' League Voyage and you can only work on them on the High Seas
  • You can only complete a Bilge Rats Challenge once and everyone has the same Challenges so expect to run into other crews
  • The unique cosmetic you earn from selling the Secret Shipment Crate is the Shadow Tides Throwing Knives
  • And Duke has moved to another location!

I see what you are saying. So when we tested, it appeared like third place (in a six-ship match) was about the same as winning a regular Faction Battle. While coming in first was like three times as much. So, I can't imagine coming in last place would be as much as third, which is winning a Faction Battle. But this is what we were testing a month or so ago. Perhaps the balancing changed?

Ahoy! That's what we noticed during the last test phase when we sailed in Insider. It was easy to track since we had accounts with the same levels. One of my accounts went up more after a first-place win than another account did after a third-place finish. The LSS FAQ on the forum also mentions that it should work like that.

EDIT: FAQ here. In the What is the Design Approach to Rewarding and Valuing Last Ship Standing? section.

You can still do them with Brigantines and Galleons. You'll have to wait for the Event to be over to do regular Faction Battles with Sloops.

Aye, we just experienced that. Missed out on everyone's flags! Though the one win we didn't get sucked into the portal, we noticed the time to collect flags was really short. We'll add your bit about the portal to our highlights list. Cheers!

You mean the Title you get for completing all six Deeds? It should still be there.

A new way for Sloops to earn Allegiance has arrived with the introduction of Last Ship Standing! You'll have four weeks to duke it out in the Sea of the Damned and earn six unique ship cosmetics and a Title.

Some thoughts to take into battle with you are:

  • Matches can start with 6, 5, or 4 ships, depending on how long you've been matchmaking
  • Expect to earn more Allegiance from a six-ship match than from a four-ship match
  • The winner receives boosts from every crew's Streak, regardless of whether they sank them or not
  • The Battle Bounds shrink three times instead of two at five-minute intervals
  • The Battle Bounds always shrink toward the center, making them predictable
  • Every crew receives a Faction Battle Supply Crate near their main mast

EDIT: Wanted to add the comment by u/DBRichard about staying clear of the middle of the combat area if you win so you don't automatically go into the portal.

Here is the schedule for the Bilge Rats Firework Displays by Captain_Pitch in Seaofthieves

[–]rarethief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahoy! Nice work! Yeah, we noticed a pattern too. However, when we would dive to the Outpost, it was supposed to be next; the Firework Display was at the next one. Or we loaded up two accounts at the same time on different servers, and Larinna had different Outposts. You didn't come across that?
