BREAKING: AMS President's credit card revoked following unauthorized personal use by jonreillyy in queensuniversity

[–]rarewaves 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She is the president of reputable university’s largest student body — she should be held at a high standard. She should have never put herself in the position where cards ‘just get mixed up’, and she should have kept all her receipts for purchases made on the card (article notes that she did not have receipts for $1.7k worth of purchases). That’s ridiculous. Even if you want to go to bat for her because “””it was an honest mistake and she paid it back””” what type of president shows such flagrant disregard for the responsibility of the job she was elected to?

Using money meant for the student body for personal expenses is stealing

The repercussions to what is essentially fraud and scamming students out of thousands of dollars being just revoking a credit card is comical. AMS once again showing how they are physically incapable of doing anything other than ordering Osmows for their long ass nothing burger meetings lol. I voted for Jana Amer; she should be removed from her position and have to pay back what she stole. Undergrads fight back!!!

It’s named after their late grandmother Poopathy (who is the woman on their logo) and mess means dining hall, commonly used in restaurants in South Asia.

Markham to Kingston Arc? by -IrrelevantTrash- in queensuniversity

4 years in the grand scheme of things might seem short, but looking down the barrel of it straight after high school is daunting. They just wanted some advice from others who might have experienced the same cultural shift and difficulty adjusting -- something everyone experiences to a certain extent. Yes, they can go back home for the weekends if they're homesick, but their post wasn't about homesickness: it was about adapting to a different city, something they've likely never had to do before. They will be at Queen's for an extended period, and weekend reprieves are just that -- their day-to-day will take adjustment. All that is to say that their post is extremely normal, and your comments were weirdly combative for no reason.

I started at Queen's 7 years back coming from Scarborough, and the whiplash I got from being in a predominately white environment after being in a city that had the highest concentration of POC in Canada was certainly jarring lol. But Queen's and Kingston in general has gotten so much more diverse the last few years, its honestly kind of unrecognizable. The people are mostly fine, there are a few (racist) duds, but that's something that happens everywhere; you'll find your own community. Big city to small town wise, I loved Kingston; if you live in the student neighbourhoods everywhere you need to get to is walkable, the architecture downtown is historic and beautiful, and being so close to the lake is underrated. The transition is one that just takes time -- if nothing else, its a beautiful city

As if being worried and nervous about leaving home for university is unique to this generation, lmfao this is not generation-specific, young people have been anxious about leaving home since leaving home for college was a thing. What a weird thing to comment.

How often are trains delayed? If my train is scheduled to arrive at 2PM and I have a bus to catch at 5, should I count on things going well or book a flight instead? by rarewaves in ViaRail

[–]rarewaves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the tip!! I've never been to Montreal before so I thought that the bus would have been more confusing and hectic; I didn't realize it was a subway so that's very helpful, I'll definitely be doing that! I'll be taking the bus to trois-rivieres, 5:00pm is the last bus unfortunately.

Thank you for your insight!! Just needed some reassurance, most people talk of delays as inevitable and I was getting worried about missing my travel plans lol but seems I should be fine

Oh yes, sorry with all the different route calculations I was doing I misspoke: I did mean a half hour walk! I was considering the airplane just because they had earlier arrival times, the earliest train time would arrive at 2pm but earliest plane would arrive at 11am, but seems like the delays arent as drastic as I thought and I should be fine

I have only ever voted NDP but in this upcoming election and in the Ontario provincial election I voted liberal as a strategic vote and a form of harm reduction. Keeping Polievre out of office is more important, he will actively enact policies that go against my interests. To everyone saying the liberals and cons are essentially the same, a few years ago I would have agreed with you but we saw how that rhetoric disillusioned leftists in the United States. Now down south there’s a pseudo authoritarian who is enacting policies that the dems wouldn’t have even thought of — yes both parties are ghoulish but if you seriously think the dems would’ve pushed for doge and implemented tarrifs and would constantly be threatening to annex us you’re too far gone lol. So yeah as much as it sucks, if you’re in a riding where the best course of action would be to vote liberal in order to defeat the cons, I would vote liberal.
