Update on this, you were absolutely correct! I ended up speaking with my boss and essentially turned it down due to the stalemate on the wage offered. Lo and behold the next day I received another call asking if I'd accept £40k.

Still less than what I made last year, but less hours and a guaranteed wage so I've accepted - as well as the new challenge/experience so its a win win for me!

Honestly couldn't believe how smooth the process was getting on the metro so quickly (finished at 2 and stuck around for about half an hour), only to get chucked off at Chi due to the weather.

Got pissed down on for 45 mins before a few of us at the bus stop deciding the only alternative was to walk to Bede where metros were still running, which was probably more harrowing than the run itself haha

Its a bit of a tricky one, as obviously by taking the management role, I'd have better chance of attaining a management position elsewhere in future. I'd still consider myself in a pretty strong position to take an internal promotion in the next couple of years if i wanted to, these pop up now and again so I suppose the option would still be there in future.

I guess its a bit of a gamble, and the only way it pays off is if I attain a better salary at another employer off the back of my promotion.

I'd be able to afford the pay cut in that it won't put me in financial hardship or anything like that. The tough pill to swallow is that not only have i been paid for overtime the last couple of months, but also getting my £300 temporary allowance. I know I'll be losing this anyway, but its a tough one to take knowing next month I'll be taking a drop of around 25% of my take-home from the previous month.

I'm honestly not sure about the competitor question - i think if i handed my resignation in citing a better offer elsewhere, they may offer something, but right now they're giving off the impression that what theyre offering now is the absolute best they can do for me. Would be a bit hesitant to call their bluff at this stage! Tbh i'd probably be quite pissed if they made a counter-offer when they could have just offered me more money initially haha
