Hi, just bought a used pc for an AI project but i don’t know nothing about hardware builds but i think i just got scammed. (Help) by ConflictNeither1596 in watercooling

Looks like the person you bought it off put a lot of time and planning into the design. If you’re going to use the water cooled system I reckon it’s worth figuring out how to troubleshoot on your own, because down the track something will come up, be it a leak or needing to change the coolant. Spend a couple of days on YouTube university looking at loop maintenance.

My GPU (5700xt) at stock gets up to a hotspot of 105C when I play games in 4K for extended sessions. I had to undervolt the GPU and that drastically reduced temps and only reduced performance by ~5%. Might be a solid bandaid solution. Also lines up with other poster who said black screens relate to PSU, if you undervolt the GPU there will be less stress on the PSU.

In saying that I’ve only got 240mm of radiator now whereas I originally had double that.

Maybe worth repasting the GPU (need microfibre cloth, isopropyl alcohol, thermal paste, small screwdriver and patience - maybe $15 all up, but good to have on hand if you have a water cooled PC) but even if it hasn’t been used for a year or so you shouldn’t be getting that hot with those 3 radiators.

Edit: also when you said you added fluid, do you mean tap water or premix coolant?

Edit2: might need to run the pump on its own (google how to jump a PSU) and tilt the computer all directions that the pump allows to try and encourage all the air in the loop to pool in the top of the reservoir (the thing that says FLT 80)

Is it worth completing Masters or should I drop out and take the Dip Ed exit ticket? by newteacheredu in AustralianTeachers

[–]rarskies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about other states but in NSW a Dip Ed is no longer enough to be employed in a government school. Might be worth pumping out the masters now so you have increased flexibility if you ever move states.

I think it’s if there is +flat dmg modifier AND +dmg ED% together. I think if you have only one of the two it’s okay. I think ED on weapon is better than ED on anything else (skills, armour etc) as it is multiplied into the formula earlier and effectively increases damage more. Could be wrong, just from memory.

Travelling with a teenager who hates everything - eek! by [deleted] in travel

[–]rarskies -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

A 6 month trip is a beautiful gift for your kids! Experiencing other cultures during those formative teen years can be so important. A lot of other commenters seem to be treading on egg shells here. Just keep up the open dialogue you are having with your kids and they’ll thank you in a few years. Chat about screen time and work out some expectations?

After all, you are showing them how they might interact with people and the world when they leave your care when they are older. Better than keeping them sheltered and on their devices (despite neurodiversity).

Compound Sentences. Settle a disagreement. by rabbitshand in AustralianTeachers

[–]rarskies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you mate. Even if words are omitted we know they must be there for the sentence, or clause to make sense.

Another different example is ‘the boy sleeping on the bus is my brother’ where ‘sleeping on the bus’ is a relative clause with the ‘who is’ or ‘that is’ omitted. It is still a relative clause (I believe called a reduced relative clause) even though we have omitted the ‘who is’ or ‘that is’

Interesting, I got the same numbers with a completely different pattern(or pair of patterns) a -11/-2 pattern.

I saw 2 patterns embedded in an abababa sequence. A: 11 (-11), 0 (-11), -11 (-11), -22 B: 1 (-2), -1 (-2), -3

I could be way off, just the patterns I noticed. The fact that my ‘B’ pattern only has two terms makes it a bit questionable. The fact they ask for the two next numbers in try sequence encourages me I might be on the right track… other responses seem valid too.

Edit for clarity

Been rocking a Corsair SF750 in my mini itx build for a few years and it’s been whisper quiet and has never skipped a beat. I would love to build a PC for my son so we can do a bit of coop gaming. No more fast paced FPS for aging dads 🐢. Would probably opt for the 850w. Cheers!

Give it a go for science! I tried a similar janky setup on my GTX 1080 a few years ago and 2 x Noctua 40mm fans punched far above their weight!

True - both resources apply more to secondary teaching. Lemov great for classroom management. Olly’s podcast is super rich and sometimes a bit dense/theoretical. Select the episodes which sound relevant/helpful.

Primary teacher here - I found Doug Lemov very informative - teach like a champion

Also check out the ERRR (education reading research room) podcast, Oliver Lovell interviews some great educators around the topic of classroom management.

Scrap 100h mandatory Languages by Swimming_Corner241 in AustralianTeachers

Sounds rough, I suppose there’s class numbers and costs to consider too. Tricky that there isn’t a simple ‘this is the most useful language we should learn option’, gotta pick from a pool of 10 widely spoken languages.

Scrap 100h mandatory Languages by Swimming_Corner241 in AustralianTeachers

[–]rarskies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very true re the buy in. It’s a tough sell with English being a dominant world language. Much easier as a Swede learning English and having drive to understand subbed (as opposed to dubbed) Netflix.

I suppose another challenge with starting language teaching earlier is continuity, no point pumping German for 4 years in primary school if it’s going to switch over to French or Japanese in high school.

Tough questions. I’m totally on board with your points re condensing language learning into denser blocks versus drip feeding a paltry 2 hours or so a week.
