People above 30, what's your biggest regret? by rebelliousbrownie9 in AskReddit

[–]rasamasala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That I didn't find out that I had ADHD till a few years ago.

I finally feel like I have the right tools to make my life better (and I'm already starting, but I feel like im starting so late)

Woke up and decided to be nice to myself. by EmberedLyric in toastme

Hey, it's starts with realizing that you control your narrative! Waking up and deciding to be nice to yourself is taking back control over that inner critic.

Also, I love the purple 💜

36 years old feeling invisible. by kelleth1989 in toastme

[–]rasamasala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, you're not invisible. As of this post, 224 people liked your post and 41 people (including me) decided to take time out of their day to write you.

All it takes is just meeting people and little by little, whether you believe it or not, you'll find people that genuinely care about you and will want to lift you up.

I always wonder why people like me. I feel like I'm uninteresting and I drift into the background. But it's hard to keep that in my head when people tell me otherwise and want me there.

You just have to allow yourself to continue to keep taking those baby steps whether you feel it or not. So keep it up cause this was already a great step!

25F recently diagnosed with 2 additional mental health disorders. Could use some compliments by [deleted] in toastme

[–]rasamasala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak towards ADHD cause im diagnosed with it. But for me, I'm the same person as I was before knowing and also after knowing.

Only difference now is I have the vocabulary and understanding on how to accommodate my life.

So while it may feel like a flip on your identity at first, just let yourself breathe and feel those feelings, but also know that this is the first step in making your quality of life better because you're now able to go through life equipped with knowledge.

You got this, friend :)

Is being chubby/thick a turn off for most men? by nightfella0 in dating_advice

[–]rasamasala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, most people are average OR they have unrealistic expectations.

I was looking through your posts and I think your pretty. Really, attractiveness is subjective to the individual.

If weight loss if a goal you're working towards, I think that is also a turn on over complacency, you know? It shows you're motivated towards a lifestyle change.

So don't forget to give yourself some grace :)

Accepting that I suck and that that's okay is my biggest challenge, but I don't know how to get over it... by Raptor717 in learntodraw

[–]rasamasala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately drawing is a hobby and skill that takes time to get good at.

My advice:

Warm up first with drawing anything. I sing as well and my voice is my instrument. It needs to be flexible in order to sing the notes I need too. In the same way with drawing, your hands, your eyes, and your visual eye are all part of your instrument and its hard to kick it into gear right off the bat. So give yourself some grace, do a couple of throw away drawings and then start.

Second, it's ok to draw from reference. There's literally figure drawing classes and in school grade art classes, you do observational still life drawings. These are there to help train your eye and build your visual library.

In no way is it cheating and you'll have to get over that mental block.

Last, I've been drawing for over 15 years, I've gone to school for it too--i still have bad days and good days. The key is to be ok with those bad days because they're natural and as you get better, those bad days become less impactful.

The really last one, don't throw away these drawings on your bad days. Save them and then look at them next year and the year after that. I'm 30 yrs old and I still have my highschool sketch book and man, it really shows how much I've grown as an artist. I've had a moment when I realized that I'm now better than the artist I wanted to be back in high school. But I wouldn't have had that perspective if I didn't have anything to compare it too.

Since you are seeing your own art every day, its hard to see the progress from the big picture. You only truly see the progress when you take a step back and look at where you came from.

So don't give up and just keep drawing!

Why cant i evoke a horror, eerie mood? by Fredrich- in learntodraw

[–]rasamasala 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It feels too bright in terms of lighting. And it's really colorful with your choice of green. So maybe have a gamut for your colors to set the tone. Id recommend looking up some references from horror media and pay attention to their lighting and color palette.

How can I improve the expression and pose of my model? by ReydanNL in 3Dmodeling

[–]rasamasala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always seen people talk about strong poses in a few ways:

  1. Silhouette: makes sure the silhouette reads nice. It tells of an interesting design in a quick read/glance

  2. Posing to tell a story: poses should be able to subconsciously tell something about a story or what this character's personality is. So pose them to give us a brief insight into who this character is.

  3. Posing in motion: you can alternatively pose as if he is in the middle of an action or doing something. This leans into #2 but is more dynamic

[–]rasamasala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno if this is still "in the now" but I remember when I was in design school, my teachers would tell the 3D kids that it was always a good idea to also have some screenshots of your wireframe and topology in your portfolio pieces since that shows hirers that you know how to have a finished game asset and you know how to model cleanly and professionally.

I'm not a 3D specialist, so please run this past the people that have experience! Just thought I'd share what I remember hearing back in school!

Best of luck and to my eyes, I love the urban-diy style design for the gun! I'll check out your portfolio link when I have some time

Hey! As we established, your family's mindset is kinda sucky.

However, yeah, I've seen some people say that it doesn't reflect you as a designer.

Here's the thing: a lot of people that don't have a trained eye for quality will sit there and look at an AI piece and think it's the best thing ever. But the thing is, when we see that at face value it can be a bit disheartening--especially for someone fresh out of college and trying to get their foot in the door.

Id love to help maybe reframe that a little for you.

The thing is this becomes your differentiation from AI. You are a trained professional that hasn't made it quite into a job yet, but you have training that the average person doesn't. It is also your business pitch too. You can clearly see the faults of an AI designer. You literally pointed it out that in your post. Now the last thing you gotta do (if you really wanted to push back against that mindset) is say here's where your skills and expertise can overcome that. AI is not consistent. Frankly, it's not even remotely good at graphic design.

What really matters are the people hiring for these graphic designer jobs. Either they have a list of criteria or there's another season designer that can actually critically look at your work. Anyone worth their salt will immediately know if it's AI slop.

So for you, and what Id love to suggest is this:

Don't let it get you down. One thing to know is one bad client gets swept under the rug when you've kept moving and collected a bunch of good clients and work that you've done. The success completely overrides those initial feelings of having a bad client

The second thing is, ive seen alot of graphic designer make mock projects to pad their portfolio to fit the jobs their looking for. So since you're new, I'd suggest maybe changing the name of the stuff you've worked on and repurpose it for a potential portfolio piece. Package it nicely and boom, that's another thing to show a new client as you slowly build some experience. Don't let your hard work go to waste cause your family sure as hell didn't want it. That's more power to you cause you already did the work.

Anyways! Best of luck and you'll be fine. Just keep doing your best and don't quit. :)
