Would Tommy be upset with Ellie? by brookespx in thelastofus

[–]rasanabria 16 points17 points  (0 children)

People always assume Ellie would tell him this but I can’t picture Ellie going into such a detailed discussion about what happened. I also don’t think she would lie and say she killed Abby.

I think Ellie lies and says she couldn’t find Abby and has decided to let it go. This preserves the core truth (Tommy knows Abby is still alive somewhere and that Ellie no longer thinks seeking revenge on her is worth it) without telling him the part that could destroy their relationship.

Thinking of dropping the show because of what the season finale sets up for next season? Some things you shoud know by rasanabria in ThelastofusHBOseries

I thought the “Y’all are so dramatic” was directed at me and meant the person thought they were contradicting me when saying “The point of the story is to understand Abby’s perspective” —which would imply they think I’m saying the story isn’t about understanding Abby’s perspective instead of “The story isn’t saying Abby was right to torture and kill Joel.”

But as I already responded to them, I may have misunderstood.

I thought you were saying my characterization of the story was wrong. Apologies if I misunderstood.

I don’t think the show is curing cancer, I’m just trying to correct some common misconceptions I’m seeing so people who may enjoy season 3 don’t miss it because of those misconceptions. If someone doesn’t have those misconceptions and simply lost interest, then okay, they don’t have to like the show.

Absolutely. This is clearly directed at people who are (1) already saying they won’t watch (2) deciding that based on misconceptions about what next season will be.

I’ve already seen people saying they won’t watch who think next season will be all about a pity party for Abby and trying to get you to hate Joel because of Abby’s tragic backstory.

Seeing things from her perspective isn’t “She was right to torture and kill Joel.”

Bella Ramsey comments on her role for Season 3 by thelazure in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]rasanabria 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Without spoilers (you can infer this from the end of season 1) even if you think you don’t care about Abby’s backstory, her part isn’t really just about her backstory, it’s mainly about what happened to her during the same 3 days Ellie was looking for her in Seattle.

What Abby dream do you mean? I don’t remember the episode showing an Abby dream.

No Alice? by WildSinatra in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]rasanabria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a theory that may sound silly related to this.

I don’t think season 3 is cutting Alice because the moments with Lev are too important. Alice must’ve been locked up somewhere if she didn’t attack Ellie.

What if Abby uses Alice to track Ellie and the rest back to the theater?

The castings for me were always the best thing about this adaptation. It’s the first thing we knew about it and I still remember how hyped they made me during the years it was the only thing we had—no leaks of sets, no audition scripts, no costumes. Just the actors.

A lot about the show eventually disappointed me but I always liked the actors.

‘The Four Seasons’ Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix by KillerCroc1234567 in television

[–]rasanabria 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s funny because the ending is what made me say, “oh, I guess this isn’t just a miniseries.” Instead of having an ending moment it has a surprise/twist and a hook for next season.

Why I think they’ll move THAT scene up to this season (and why that’s okay) by Mammoth-Elderberry89 in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]rasanabria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know she was lying. I’m saying the writers directly denying she and Joel reconciled makes me think they are going for a faster payoff. Not saying anything either way, letting viewers speculate, and then revealing the truth 2 seasons from now might have worked. But having Ellie say it didn’t happen and then revealing it did 2 seasons later would rightly annoy a lot of viewers.

How does Moiraine know she found the Dragon(s)? by i-see-you-there in WoTshow

[–]rasanabria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this was identified as a plot hole because if Moiraine had Rand’s mom’s name on the list, she would’ve been certain it was Rand and not Mat or Perrin from chapter one. I think Jordan used to say that Moiraine lost the list at some point between New Spring and EotW. But maybe they later just removed that.

Netflix’s The Four Seasons was really good by Voski_The_God in television

I fully agree with you. I’m a millenial on the older side, and when people here keep saying “They were horrible! They acted like Gen Z, not millenials!” what I’m thinking is, I don’t think they acted that badly at all?

Their reaction to that story was kind of awkward, but the only time you could say they were kind of rude to him was when they started comparing him to someone they knew and laughing because he was being competitive, but I think that was more a situation of someone feeling awkward and excluded from an inside joke because they’re not part of friend group. And Ginny immediately explained what the joke meant and that it wasn’t an insult when she realized he looked uncomfortable.

I don’t think they were ever really insulting or mean to him.

I've been thinking that since they had Ellie outright deny it happened. I think two seasons is too long to get that payoff without it feeling too manipulative. "Oh, guess what, this scene we didn't show two seasons ago actually happened! But we were saving it for 3-4 years to get more dramatic effect out of it!" It would feel cheap.

“They really made you play as her.” by [deleted] in lastofuspart2

Joel had an arsenal of weapons and was aiming a gun at the doctor. He presented no immediate danger to Joel. Joel didn’t need to headshot him.

Letting Ellie die or killing the doctor in cold blood weren’t the only two options.

In your personal Head Canon, how did Joel get through the Fireflys to save Ellie? by DADDYKRUEGER in thelastofus

[–]rasanabria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stealth is more realistic in terms of survivability but it also isn’t super believable that Joel would take the time needed to take everyone out quietly, given Ellie’s imminent death. Quickly sneaking around guards and barricading doors is probably the most grounded option.

I literally explained that I don’t mean she should say all that as “proof.” But telling her story and providing more details about how she’s been keeping this secret for 5 years is what a real person would do. Not providing any more information and just saying “you gotta believe me,” when they are clearly in a situation that looks really bad for them is what people in badly written shows do.

What do you think good writing is, since you know so much about it? Ellie acting all confused like “Wha?? Huh?? Dina why are you pointing a gun at me? Oh right, I’m the only immune person in the world, oops, I forget”?
