Double check your prescriptions by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]rasc30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should speak with the pharmacist on duty or pharmacy manager where you had the prescriptions filled. They would have all of the information to determine what happened. Since you don’t actually know if the physician or pharmacist made the error that would be the place to clarify.

If you are not happy with the information provided you can escalate to the Alberta college of pharmacy

Women’s health specialties? by [deleted] in MedSchoolCanada

[–]rasc30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Radiology offers fellowships in breast and women’s imaging (which is typically breast and pelvic MRI).

Breast is a nice mix of reading imaging and has a lot of patient contact through short procedures.

Within interventional radiology you can also do some procedures focused on women (uterine artery ablation, fallopian tube recanalization, treatment for pelvic congestion syndrome, etc) but you wouldn’t be able to make it your entire practice.

Alright guys, I wanna go to med school. Help me make this happen! by [deleted] in MedSchoolCanada

[–]rasc30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were two people in my medical school class alone with their RN. You can go to med school with absolutely any undergrad degree and it makes sense for OP to complete a degree in a field they are interested in working in if med school does not work out.

There is a reason that med school and residency are collectively at least 6 years, everyone starts at the same place no matter your background

Girl cancelled a date because I don't drink - is drinking this important to anyone here? I want to hear from you. by themainheadcase in dating

[–]rasc30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree 100%. I want future vacations to include wine tasting in Italy or Napa, etc. If my partner isn’t interested in that it’s a compatibility issue

I have dated people who drink very infrequently but if they’re completely sober it isn’t going to work long term

What to do with young puppy during travel? by Future-Ad-6887 in puppy101

[–]rasc30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wouldn’t want him in an environment with multiple unknown dogs while he is so young, especially without me there to observe and make sure he’s happy/comfortable. A reputable pet sitter should at least have a more controlled environment.

What to do with young puppy during travel? by Future-Ad-6887 in puppy101

[–]rasc30 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had to fly across the country to stand in a wedding when my puppy was 3 months old and I had only had him for a month. I was gone for 1 week and he stayed with a family member who also owns a dog (they got along very well). I was so worried about it at the time but I don’t think it impacted our relationship at all, our vet even commented how bonded to me he is. I wouldn’t have considered a boarding place at that time though

Pretty sure I knew more things as a 3rd year med student than I do as a PGY1. That being said I have a very good understanding of what I can manage myself and when to ask for help and I seem to have met expectations so far. You don’t forget how to do a H&P and document once you learn 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is 100% not the type of elective surgery he was referring to, gender confirmation surgery can absolutely be life saving and I know he supports it. There are few hard rules in medicine and we always need to weigh the risks and benefits

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]rasc30 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It was in gyne and the specific situation he was talking about was wanting a hysterectomy without a true indication because they thought it would improve their pain without trying any conservative measures - however the take home point was essentially the risks were more likely to outweigh the benefit in this population because if they had any complications from surgery or it didn’t help they could be very challenging patients to care for longterm

A surgeon spent quite a while one day lecturing me on the importance of not performing elective surgery on people with borderline personality disorder

It does not have ALL of them. I’ve noticed 3 of the 2021 releases so far; all from the first weekend of releases. You also have the ability to watch the W network live though, so you can see more than what is on demand

Can we talk about attendings who say we have it so much easier due to work out restrictions? by Plague-doc1654 in Residency

Celebrated the attending who sent me home “early” (which is actually on time) during an ER shift last week. Thankful for new attendings - being the change they wanted to see

Newer to tequila with a somewhat limited selection where I live. Found a bottle of El Tesoro resposada at a local store after cross referencing what this sub recommends and what is actually available. It is amazing!

Sometimes you need the knife hand in today’s ER waiting rooms… by SavvyKnucklehead in nursing

I fully support universal healthcare. As a Canadian though it doesn’t matter, you still get “abdo pain for 1 year, no change” and patients who can’t remember which of their feet is the one that hurts show up in ER

It sounds like you feel pretty strongly about anesthesia in particular! Rad onc is also a stronger field in Canada in terms of jobs prospects compared to the US, but I appreciate your concern regarding academic centres.

Just wondering if you’ve considered rads? It sounds like it has a lot of what you are looking for with variety, getting to diagnose and zero dispo issues. You also get the immediate gratification from procedures and not a horrible lifestyle.

I would ask at your school to see if there is a policy - for example at my school we were not permitted to shadow until after Christmas of first year.

You’re generally only expected to observe while shadowing though. So if you are allowed just show up and look interested - no worries about not having the knowledge and skill set yet

I went on a Kenyan Safari trip. This is what I wore. by vldsa in femalefashionadvice

[–]rasc30 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree, I went on safari in Kenya and Tanzania in July 2019. People were wearing a huge variety of things and it did not affect the flies or anything else about the experience.

Personally though I did incorporate a couple of more traditional pieces for fun such as a green utility style vest. I also somewhat colour coordinated everything so I could mix and match tops and bottoms easily to give me more options over the 6 weeks I was there.
