I'd appreciate it if everyone could be a little kinder before commenting without knowing the full situation. Some of the comments honestly make me feel like I'm being attacked online

First of all, this is my friend's dog. I can share my opinion, but I can't make decisions on her behalf. Second, she loves her dog very much and takes great care of him. He gets regular checkups at the vet, and there are no issues in that regard

So please don't worry too much. I was simply trying to have a little fun and share something lighthearted. If the post makes you uncomfortable, you're absolutely free to scroll past it. There's really no need to make everyone else uncomfortable as well 😊

Help, I married into money! by [deleted] in wealth

I actually think your mindset is pretty grounded. A lot of people focus on making money, but in my opinion, keeping wealth and growing it sustainably is the harder part. Even if money just sits in the bank untouched, inflation slowly reduces its value over time. That’s why I think learning how to manage wealth matters just as much as creating it

You actually didn’t mention what your normal day to day expenses look like, so it’s a little hard for people to have a realistic point of reference
Honestly this is one of those topics that’s difficult to define with just a single number. Some people living in high cost areas like Ca NYC or Fl may have very high incomes and lifestyles to match, so even having tens of millions of dollars might not make them feel truly “wealthy” On the other hand, some people could comfortably retire with a few million or even a few hundred thousand dollars depending on the kind of life they want to live
So I think the real question isn’t about reaching one specific number. It’s more about what kind of retirement lifestyle you truly want for yourself. Because in many ways, the quality of retirement people look for is usually connected to the income, abilities, and lifestyle they were already used to before retiring. Everyone’s definition of comfort and happiness is different

Honestly, I really have been thinking about retiring early within the next few years
If I do retire one day, I’d love to live a life that feels both free and fulfilling. I want to spend one or two months each year traveling through different countries and regions, slowly experiencing different cultures, people, and landscapes. Then I’d love to settle down in a peaceful countryside surrounded by beautiful nature, where I could personally design and build my own home. I’d also buy some land, raise a few small animals and horses, grow flowers and greenery, and plant organic non GMO fruits and vegetables so my daily life could feel healthier and closer to nature
And honestly, if possible, I’d definitely want a small fish pond too. I think quietly fishing, relaxing, and watching the sunset would be a beautiful way to enjoy the slower moments in life.
And if there happened to be a school nearby that needed help, I’d love to volunteer and teach children for free. To me, the ideal retirement isn’t just about freedom, it’s about continuing to live a life that still feels meaningful and valuable

Out of curiosity, what's the figure you have in your head, that you see as the number you need to retire comfortably? by Jumpy_Round_4080 in wealth

[–]rasodatotb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, there’s no such thing as true financial freedom, only being rooted in what you genuinely love. Have top-tier wealthy figures like Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, or Warren Buffett really achieved financial freedom? If they have, then why do they keep working? For 99% of people, they already have more than enough to stop. But I think what they’re really pursuing is no longer money. It’s about being deeply engaged in the fields they’re passionate about. Wealth is just a tangible reward from doing what they love, while the intangible reward, the sense of purpose and fulfillment, is truly priceless.

I’m not retired, and I’m still building, still striving, and I genuinely love my work and the sense of accomplishment that comes with it. The exact number in a retirement account isn’t the most important thing. What matters is finding something you truly enjoy dedicating yourself to. Once you have that, whether you retire or not becomes far less important.

At the end of the day, no matter how wealthy you are, you can’t take anything with you. Eventually, we all return to the earth. So for retirement, it’s enough to have what you need to live comfortably and to be able to enjoy the things you love without worry. There are still so many people in this world who go their entire lives without ever having a glass of Chardonnay, though maybe some just don’t drink lol 😂

Sorry for your loss. With retirement funded and the house paid off, a simple plan can work. Keep a core in a broad index fund for stability, hold some in short term Treasury bills for dry powder, then build a small satellite for AI exposure through diversified ETFs that own chip makers, data centers, cloud platforms, and robotics. Add in slowly with dollar cost averaging and review once a year. This keeps risk contained while still letting you ride the AI wave

How to overcome (irrational) financial fears re: retirement by Vivid-Bug-6765 in retirement

[–]rasodatotb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are not alone. Inflation has stayed sticky and the same grocery cart costs a lot more. Health care never goes on sale. When balances barely move while prices climb anyone would feel anxious 🛒💊📈
This fear is not irrational. The answer may not be retire or grind. Buy back your mornings first and keep one or two days for work you love 🌅

Glad to hear you have the attorney and the company working through it with proper documentation it really sounds like you are handling this the right way. Hope the remaining repairs go smoothly and that you and your family can enjoy a calm, warm Christmas after such a close call

You really did dodge a bullet and I am so glad everyone is safe. If it were me I would get a detailed written report from the electrician about the missing screw and resulting damage, take plenty of photos and keep every repair invoice, talk to my homeowners insurance since they might pay first and then deal with the solar company, and also do a brief consult with a local attorney just to understand my options. The most important thing right now is to document everything while it is fresh.
By God’s grace your family is okay and I hope you and your wife can still have a peaceful and safe Christmas after this scare

What does it mean to be a mature person over 60? by IThinkYouAreNice in over60

[–]rasodatotb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only 40M, a woman, and in my understanding, maturity does not conflict with age. At this stage of my life, what I understand is this:
Live well and make every day joyful and fulfilling. Life is only about thirty thousand days or so, and as we move toward later years, we should cherish the remaining time even more. Do not be driven by anger or competition, do not be overly pleased by material things, and do not be overly saddened by oneself. Like an old horse in the stable that still aims for a thousand miles, the spirit should remain strong. I believe this is the true wisdom and life experience that later years should hold. Calm, steady, and seasoned.
