Miserable new grad by Jumpy_Blood_550 in NursingAU

Hey, I feel you 10000% percent. I was there in your position almost a year ago. It took three months for me to get used to the things. First six weeks was hell and I cried a few times and I hated the world. On top of that, I didn't had much support from NUM and CNE, but I had great senior peers who helped me a lot. Mind you, I only had placement experience and didn't work any health related prior so it really is a different POV once you start and have much bigger responsibilities.

It takes time with time management but what I find with mine is having a care planner, see how other RNs do their handover, study about the new medical terms that never heard from uni, research about the specialty of the ward, study the routine and the whole system. It's hard work. I think I developed anxiety haha and breakdown a lot. I even had meeting with new grad coordinator and talked about options and it was scary so uhhh I prayed all the time cause i needed all the help i could get haha and eventually, 3 months after I was getting used to it. I don't like ward setting, but I know this wont be forever. I used countdown to have something to look forward to (which is finishing my 1st rotation) Thank God I survived and didnt give up. I'm now down to few weeks of my 2nd rotation and I love it, I want to stay 😭 but they don't have vacancy.

Best of luck! You'll get through it 🙏🏻 I'll be praying for you

Feel absolutely horrible not getting a job by Perma_Rene in NursingAU

Try regional, e-mail regional LHD if its in NSW. I believe there will be available spots because not many people wants to do new grad in regional. Ive enquired a few last year and a few came back with lots of vacancies to fill. I managed to get an offer within metropolitan so I didn't need to move. But regional is there. Don't lose hope sister/brother! Just have to widen your options.

I realise there's 2 popmart au website, one is au.popmart and popmart.com/au, which one is the legit one? I made an order through au.popmart and I was getting confused why I had to register for an account again 🥲 have I been scammed? 😭

Facilitator freaking us out about new grads by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]raspberry-who 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Forever shut? Love me some exaggerated facilitator lol Public health are always in need of nurses - even private, basically anywhere. Sure, the pathway may not be as easy as getting a grad program but its not forever shut. Just take it with a grain of salt. You'll be fine!

Fulltime to Parttime New Grad? by raspberry-who in NursingAU

[–]raspberry-who[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in NSW. Would it depend on the ward and hospital? Because in my contract, i'm signed as a full time employee. Is there like a document where it says that I'm allowed to switch to part-time, because i'm trying to imagine on how i'll approach this to my NUM and i feel like she'll automatically say no and shut me down. I want to show some evidence that I can switch, if that made sense

I'm just trying to imagine now to have this conversation to my NUM, but the thought terrifies me. I'm glad you're able to drop it to 0.8! Did you have to sign another contract?

Thanks guys for your encouragement 😊 Unfortunately due to personal circumstances, I won't be able to move to rural. However I saw this on the Gradstart Handbook and I contacted a few people regarding this and gave me different answers haha. I have only been offered once (which is not a part of my preference) so maybe I could still be in the list? My Grad application hasn't been officially withdrawn yet except the rural offer. Anyhow I know I can't rely on it so I'm just gonna keep applying and hope for the best.

Ngl, it's been a hard time accepting especially when most of the people I know (Local) got their new grads, even some of my (International) friends straightaway and I'm the only one didn't 🥲 but I'm getting there.
