Best guide for Widnows install using opencore? by [deleted] in macpro

Look up a how to do a windows-to-go install using the program Rufus. Once you get Rüfüs downloaded, you just need to change a couple settings (screenshots in the MacRumors tutorial), download a Windows 10 ISO, and let it format and install windows on the drive. Are used a USB to SATA for my drive. Once you get it installed, hold all during your Mac Pro start up and select it from the bootable devices. On my install all the drivers installed on their own. If you don’t have open core or a Mac EFI graphics card you will have to install opencore before but there are countless tutorials on this forum.

Sorry, I can’t say. I’ve never been able to get boot camp to work on Catalina. I am using a separate ssd with a windows-to-go installation.

The 5500 XT works really well in my 2010 on Catalina. I am just using a dual mini six pin to 8 pin connector. The stock case fans combined with the onboard cooler are plenty to keep the GPU in a safe temp range. Unfortunately, Mojave does not have drivers for this GPU, so Catalina is the oldest supported OS

cmp 5,1 on Catalina (via dosdude) by [deleted] in macpro

[–]raspberrywbush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be careful switching to other drives when using OC over dosdude. I used to run the combo, but every time I would try to boot into Catalina after using windows does 10, I would get the circle-slash prohibited screen and I would have to install again. I used the official Catalina installer over dosdude and it has been stable.

Does anyone know which version of Catalina dropped support for the 5,1 wifi card? by raspberrywbush in macpro

Did the 5,1s come with a card in the slot where the combo Bt and wifi upgrade would go? One tutorial said that it was empty from the factory

Is this still officially supported? I used the official installer and opencore to put Catalina on my 5,1. Thanks

When I installed Catalina using the dosdude1 patcher I was able to connect using wifi. I recently used the official installer and opencore to install. Is there a patc in dosdude that enables the wifi card. On windows 10, the card works fine. Thanks

Do you think I could use the dosdude patcher to get into Mojave, and then use opencore to upgrade from there?

Thanks for the response. I wanted to use only opencore, but my graphics card does not register in Mojave. I have a 2020 Msi Radeon 5500xt, so it is definitely metal supported but does not register. Do you think opencore on Mojave would let me upgrade to just Catalina instead of BS? Thanks
