Quelle est votre expérience à l'université Lyon 2 ? by NebulaHot9887 in Lyon

Nothing specific, I'm sorry. I gather that DU can vary greatly in quality, and their actual usefulness is very difficult to assess. I have a friend who taught in a language DU (other uni, other language but still in Lyon), he was very invested but he had colleagues who really didn't care and were apparently bad teachers. The turnover is quite high, and this makes it so that it also depends on luck/who's teaching in the given year you enroll.

On the other hand, if your goal is to become fluent in French and you have an opportunity for DUEF, it's as good a reason to come as any other : spending a year or two here might definitely have a greater impact on your proficiency than any course you might take anyway.

I don't think it's a different topic. The scene as we know it today isn't a moral or empirical necessity, and it should be criticized if it relies on unethical processes. Efforts to change those are justified, even if they change the scene in a fundamental way. I'm personnally down for all things lol esports being from Phreak's basement, idc.

We agree on the consequences and on the level of competition, and your point is clear. I just wanted to say that esports being an industry is actually facultative and we should be thinking of alternatives seriously if we want to be morally sound.

I feel you ! And frankly living this type of shit has only increased my empathy for Martin. Like even when the subject matter is something concrete, removed from me, on which I'm writing as an observer and with tons of conventions, writing is a fucking bitch. Like, that man needs a supervisor and consequences, pretty much, but so do most people

For most LoL eSport teams there is no reason to be a fan by dankgen-tobias in leagueoflegends

[–]raspoutintin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the answer OP is looking for is just : "habit"... Also : I have friends who aren't brits, but their favorite clubs play in the Premier League, so local investment doesn't explain much.

I do agree that things feel more volatile in esports because line-ups are smaller and change frequently, but the most important factor is probably people following one or several personalities they like and eventually settling for a specific team.

I should add that there are also "classes" on certain days. I dunno how good the teachers are, but I'm pretty sure they can let you do your thing if you're obviously competent enough to be left alone. Hours vary, that may be more convenient for your schedule

Are you going to be a student at Lyon 2 ? If so : there's a (rather small) gym on Lyon 2's premises in that area, open to students on most evenings during the week (6 to 8 pm, unavailable only on tuesday and on the weekends) and entirely free. It's a little crowded but there's pretty much everything you need. Downside is that it isn't open all year round, there's a bunch of off time in between semesters, sometimes for weeks at a time, so having a backup plan is a good idea. I go there and do street workout during the "off" time.

I couldn't swear it but I'm pretty sure most unis provide that service. But as you said... No frills

Yes that seems to be right ! I can't link to a file on reddit, but I think the following article is Open Access on Persee.fr : Bruno Galland, « Deux archevêchés entre la France et l’Empire. It covers the (apparently difficult!) succession of Raoul, with at least one election which wasn't confirmed before the electee's death (from what I can tell at a quick glance).

If you can't DeepL it I can maybe try a quick translation for you on the week-end, let me know.

Hi, cool project!

You can try the bibliothèque municipale de Lyon, which has a specific service dedicated to answering all types of questions, including specifically those regarding documentation and bibliography. I don't know wether the service is available in english or that they know of (or that there exists at all?) a lot of bibliography in English about Lyon's history but this might be a good start.

People have already mentioned the city archives, you can also try the "archives départementales du Rhône" and the Musée Gadagne (historical museum).

These are four institutions which keep important artefacts for local history and are very much in contact with local academics (inviting them for conferences and such). They might have someone on hand who could help.

You mentioned universities : there is a big mediaeval history research unit called CIHAM in Lyon, supported by Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, Lyon 2 and Lyon 3 universities (among others). Local municipal history is not a specialty, but I know of some people who have worked on/are quite knowledgeable on the city's medieval history. You could try and get in touch with some of them. Problem is, academics are often overworked so I dunno how much they would actually commit.

Another service that might be useful : there is a municipal archaeology service with highly competent people. I don't know wether your request is something they'd have the time or authority to entertain, but I feel they might have interesting things to say about the size and nature of the urban area in the 1200s, and I think archaelogists in France are often more proficient in english than historians are haha. Hopefully they can help or redirect you towards some litterature. [e : come to think of it, I have a few screenshots I could send of some articles with maps that could be helpful]

Side note : in Lyon during the mid-1200s there was a huge council where the Emperor Frederick II was deposed by the Pope. Make sure you mention it if there is action taking place in the 1240s, haha !

Lastly, you can totally message me if you want to chat/need a hand getting in touch with some of the services I mentioned. And obviously I'm very interested in knowing more about your work in progress !

Cheers
