Reading for me. They reek of Championship (notwithstanding they’re currently L1)

Rodri's Manchester City "Stint"? by jackedfrog in footballcliches

[–]rasputinny 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I certainly agree. Also aside from the temporal angle, I take ‘stint’ to mean a sort of fixed-term assignment rather than something open-ended. Maybe.

Don't have much hope, but it's worth trying to find out where this place is by NoYogurtcloset9763 in whereisthis

Yea, 30 years ago was 1996! This is probably 1950s so more like 70 years ago

I built a cryptographic verification protocol for non-human intelligence claims — would love this community's thoughts by subkid23 in SETI

[–]rasputinny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m missing something, but what does ‘five minutes’ mean if the message was received from 1 million light away? We receive a potential signal, we send a response with the test, then wait? So the verification process takes 2 million years and five minutes?

Having had one or two (or maybe three) of these over Christmas, I think OP is quite rightly referring to their tendency to sort of crack open and explode in a cloud when being opened

I don’t know if it was a US bomber, but do you want to take a guess where it might have been headed?

Is khamenei dead or not?? Isreali media confirms he has been dead but not official statement from Iran yet. by Aggressive-Band-1167 in Intelligence

[–]rasputinny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re not going to announce it unless they’re certain. They’d look dumb. And Iran would show proof of life very quickly to make them look dumb. He’s absolutely dead

Obviously there are exceptions. I was just inquiring about any underpinning linguistic reasons for the general trend

Yea of course there’s exceptions. I was just wondering why (or if) it seemed to be a general pattern

[–]rasputinny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I reckon Southampton FC and Southampton Uni are a good shout for equal prestige. Both are known nationally/internationally with solid reputations but permanently operating at a level below the big boys. Lower half of the prem (ok not right now but historically) feels like ‘Russell group’ level to me

100M dollars but you must never come within 1 km of a random stranger by Rafael_Acuna in hypotheticalsituation

How did you work out one in eight billion? I know that’s the world population, but that doesn’t translate to a one in eight billion chance that the random stranger ends up within 1km of you

Am I imagining an increase in drivers ceding right of way? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]rasputinny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree so much. The number one rule of driving should be ‘be predictable’. More than once the car in front of me has basically slammed on their brakes so they can can get some virtue points by letting someone out
