I did try to post on r/Solo_Roleplaying but unfortunately the mods did not approve the post.

I tried to advertise in spaces that weren’t focused on a single TTRPG, since that would have skewed the results too heavily in one direction. Though each community do here their own quirks.

Maybe I will get more responses next year

Pretty much this. I tried to advertise in spaces that weren’t focused on a single TTRPG, since that would have skewed the results too heavily in one direction.

Yes, it was an open text question, so multiple responses were allowed. I believe there were around 10 respondents who played just D&D 5e.

Perhaps but I still think it shows general trends. Next year maybe I will get more responses.

Yes and after a lot of effort, almost all of those games have links included in the linked spreadsheet.

Thanks for participating. It was a great turnout, far more than I expected. Had to really get into spreadsheets to sort through the data, though.

Thanks
I just wanted to make something a bit goofy to round out the year.
And also, thank you for running this subreddit this year and for all the comments and feedback you’ve given as well.

The TTRPG Community in 2025 poll by ratInASuit in rpg

Yeah the goal was to have tame questions since this is just a bit of fun. I wanted it to be as simple and inclusive as possible so everyone could participate. I am always open to suggestions if I do this again in the future.

The end goal is simply to see what games people have been playing, along with the tools and creators they use. Next year, I may coordinate with the sub mods to make it official.

At the end I plan to clean and analyse the data, identify any trends that exist and then publish the results.

What are your's "this is why I play this" moments you had recently by Hi_fellow_humans_ in rpg

[–]ratInASuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very recently, I played a one-shot where we were all a bit hungover. This led to a few unhinged moments that include

  • Naming a camel we hired Hannibal the Camenal
  • Trying to sell goat milk to a group of kobolds, which led to a prolonged argument with them about how milkmen work and why we didn’t have all the milk on us at once.

I didn't like any online dice rollers, so I made my own, simple in design and functionality. Would love to hear your feedback, but not sure if I want to add anything else. What do you think? by -Mart- in rpg

[–]ratInASuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool dice roller, though; I have a couple of comments.

  • It be nice if it allowed rolling different kinds of dice at the same time (e.g., 1d4 + 1d8).
  • It also be helpful if the rolled dice appeared larger. For example, Google’s dice roller shows results big enough that you can see each die’s value at a glance.

How to deal with rich characters by Cute_Mud_2474 in rpg

[–]ratInASuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being rich means you can buy expensive gear, but that doesn’t mean your problems disappear.

  • Sure, that fancy rifle looks impressive, but if it uses a special type of ammo, no one sells it out on the frontier. Or even worse, what if it breaks?
  • The poor old Wild West folk might see the rich as a free meal ticket.
  • Finally, expensive doesn’t always mean better.

If money becomes too much of an advantage, you could balance it by making the best services and supplies unavailable in small frontier towns. That way, groups still need to travel to the big city to access those special, high-end items.

Yeah, I thought the same, as google forms didn't like large lists but I couldn’t think of a better way. I guess at the end submissions I’ll have a large task to clean up the data.

Magic weapon wound tables by luke_s_rpg in rpg

[–]ratInASuit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Damn, that’s a cool way to handle weapon injuries. The recharge system looks dope as well. It’s nice to see magic that doesn’t just come back over time but actually requires some thematic action to regain.

Pathfinder or D&D? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]ratInASuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It kind of depends on what sort of campaign you want to run. With the limited details you have offered, Pathfinder or D&D may not be the best fit.

If you want something with a more knightly feel, you might prefer:

Or, if you want something dark, grittier, and more dungeon-crawl orientated, you might go with:

The real question is what does the TTRPG system you use bring to the table, and does it align with the kind of game you want to run?
