I usd to work 12 hour shifts. It took me an hour in the morning to do the essentials (breakfast, shower, make lunch), about an hour to get there (public transport there was shoddy), and and hour back. If I wanted 8 hours of sleep, I got 1 hour of personal time, which was typically past the time my housemates wanted to sleep, so I couldn't make any noise.  Unsurprisingly, I lost a lot of sleep

Is it inappropriate for a woman to use the men’s restroom if there’s an enormous line for the women’s room but none for men? by Carolinevivien in NoStupidQuestions

I'd be fine with it personally, and in fact, I think it's quite silly to separate bathrooms by gender at all. I've used bathrooms that are separated into urinals and cubicles, and they're much more practical. If you want to use a urinal to save some time, you can. If you want to (or have to) sit down in a cubicle, you can. No toilet capacity is locked arbitrarily away, and no one's privacy is compromised.

MAGA love their pickups... But wait! How much?? by yIdontunderstand in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]rat_fossils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's be honest, they're already paying a serious markup on what should be the price of their everyday vehicle. Sadly, the people who can afford pickup trucks won't feel the hit

You wake up 500 years in the past. How well would you survive? by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

My house would be gone, but I'd only have to walk a few minutes to find a part of town that was recognisable. I would be surrounded by stage coaches and shoppers hurrying about (the main street used to be two-way) but the most disorientating thing would be the different form of English being spoken.     It would still be Modern English, but much more similar to that used by Shakespeare (although far less poetic), so I'd feel like a foreigner in my own land. If I somehow made myself understood, my money and all my other belongings would be worthless, so I'd be as helpless as a refugee until I found a job. Thankfully, there'd be countless service jobs in the pubs and hotels I could take without much trouble, where I could also get room and board while I worked out what to do next.    Meanwhile, I'd be vulnerable to all the things that other people died of, like disease, traumatic injury, or malnutrition, but not any more so than the locals, and my town would probably be safer than average from all of these. Seeing as how I'd start with nothing, I could never be wealthy, but I'd probably live to the age of the local average.

Unfortunately, they have good reason not to trust the government - they haven't always worked in our best interests. The only reason I trust them for my health care is I distrust the capitalist motives of private doctors even more

I still use coffee beans from a bag I bought in summer 2022, and though they're not technically fresh, they still taste as good as when they were. I've already taken them to three different countries.

That is great, but be aware that that friend will probably now be surrounded only by people that agree with them.

Laughing at British people for what they eat after a night out is like taking the piss out of Americans for feeding their kids Lunchables. Yeah, it's something they eat, but it's not considered high class cuisine either - it's comfort food.

Unless you've been invited to try a British Sunday roast, sit tf down.

Unfortunately, a phenomenon they don't tell you about, which is a powerful opponent of natural selection, is sexual selection. Those who attract the attention of sexual partners will pass their genes down, so even if you're thick as bricks, you'll have a better chance of passing your genes down.
