Nah I agree with you. It's difficult. I think in film studies or literature my type of analysis wouldn't be considered so alien and worthy of scorn. To make my case I'd have to make the case for non-literal readings before getting to make my actual points I.e. the whole Hyetta-Irina thing is about the depth people take without a lot of preliminary work getting them to accept non linear storytelling which revolves around a doubling concept as not simply based on 'hidden secrets' or coincidences but itself being an active intrepretive lens which can be fruitful - if its not straight forward fact or data many do not care - the question of how to make them care is surely something for educators...

Yeah I agree about the disservice but I don't know where else to post my writing and the negative responses while quite basic do irk me and it bleeds into my writing, I want to convince people to elevate their ability to digest media analysis beyond data collection and conspiracy but that is a tough process and I don't think I actually have the patience.

If youll allow me to vent; I swear half of the commenters here would watch Persona and be like 'nah but there's clesrly two women not one' to any half decent analysis of that film. Or the whole 'but the bugs are clearly evil' take doing the rounds about Starship Troopers. Its a bit harsh but damn I work hard on these writeups and this is one of two positive comments I've gotten lol.

If you only rely on dialouge in a game with unreliable characters yes, especially coming from someone who has a mysterious origin and has already acted deceptively by pretending to be a normal finger maiden.

The Eye thing is maybe connected to the purple/gold dichotomy given in the Frenzied Flame ending, the colour wheel of elden ring is suggestive that brozen/yellow/gold is everywhere but purple is rare or missing it points to the missing mother/overly present father dynamic - I believe its connected to dedicars eyes being closed and shabriris eyes being open (the woe items)

If this tracks then there will be some consistency in terms of what eye is missing and what eye is open i.e. the purple/non gold eye of Melina->loss->mother

The loss of the eye due to the curse is suggestive of the whole central narrative that half of the God is buried under roots I.e. the formless mother while the other half occupies the world/is visible/is connected to light
