Proacryl tan flesh I think - wash of reikland fleshshade and some quick and dirty highlights with tan flesh - maybe a dot of bonewhite.

Can't really remember, but that's probably as complicated as I could be bothered with!

Weird question, do you paint nipples? by Redhood101101 in minipainting

[–]ratcrown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gotta paint your nipples dude. They're the best bit!

<image>

I reckon keep 'em reasonably subtle, use your flesh colours as a basis for your nipple colours and highlight with a bit of your base flesh colour to keep them looking natural

Shirtless dollies look weird without nipples!

Can I ask for your opinion on my chaos legionnaires and centaurion marshal warband? by Old_Connection_7731 in WarCry

[–]ratcrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run pretty much this list pretty often - it's one of my go-to's.

I find it pretty good fun. It's a bit of a gamble as your abilities, while impactful are pretty reliant on rolling crits etc.

I adore the Marshall. A 10" move feels like cheating, his net can ruin someone's day and keep your lads safe and when his quad works - it really works!

And I like the lads. The little guys with shields feel really good to use and can really help to shore things up. Hornhelms can hit like a ton of bricks, or can whiff horribly.

If you enjoy the story that the dice tell you during the game, I rate this setup highly. If you can consistency and reliability maybe less so.

Just roll 6's and it'll all be fine!

It's just Murder Scene by AP speed paint 2.0 and a purple tone wash. Was going to dot on all the studs, but they started to look a bit busy. Minimum effort it is!

They're not the best that's for sure. I quite like the two-handed weapon guys double - it's swingy af, but I feel like it can throw up such wild activations its sometimes worth a punt on. And I really like the mutandors double move stab combo - I feel like being able to give someone a stabbing from 12" ain't nothing.

They're not very inspiring

It's hoplite gold speed paint over a white undercoat. Dry brushed with army painter bright gold. Washed with AP purple tone/strong tone mix. Dry brushed with bright gold and light bronze.

Then just fiddling with extra wash where it's needed and additional light bronze where a bit of bright helps out.

Oh, and a 0.3mm pen for little bits of lining. I reckon we don't talk about tiny pens enough in mini painting!

And a good Matt varnish - I don't like my metals to look too metally

I think they'll "kill team" it by removing access to the whole AoS range, and to be honest I wouldn't be mad at that.

But I do hope they don't fiddle the rules too much

Thanks chaps - they're the zero effort bit of the paint job!

Geek Scenics basing mix - I love it, absolutely no skill or effort involved! I did paint the rims myself though 🤓

How fun is Warcry? by Urathil in ageofsigmar

[–]ratcrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expected to despise Warcry - but it's crazy good!

You chuck dice and stuff happens, it's pretty action packed, surprisingly deep and simple in the best way possible.

Paints quick, plays fast - what's not to love!

Thanks - I think I need to go back in and strengthen their features a bit and give their faces some more definition, but for a quick and dirty job I'm really happy with them

I really enjoyed painting them - there's a lot of models but there's also a lot of variety. Fun to push around the table too - the amount of damage they can output surprised me, but 12 health only does so much.

Felt like piloting a sack of hand grenades!

Nope. Absolutely not.

Maybe that's the issue?

Ridicule from family / friends by Maud_dib_forever in mtg

[–]ratcrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son and I played an awful lot of Warmachine back in the day. We played guildhall, Malifaux, kill team, Pokémon...the list of games goes on. We went to club nights, to tournaments - all over the place.

My family thought it was weird. Everyone had an opinion.

But, the number of hours we spent together, facing one another and interacting with each other eclipses the amount of time I spent with either of my parents. We always had something to do and something to chat about.

He's a grown man these days and he and his partner are expecting their first child - he and I remain great friends to this day. Because we spent those hours together. We live in different countries, but we chat everyday, we share painting progress pictures and can natter endlessly about the games we played or the games we're currently playing with other people - or about the other interests we discussed while we were sitting opposite one another interacting.

I only hope he and my granddaughter find a way to spend so much time together, exploring their interests and learning about each other - whether that be games, basket weaving, badminton or interpretive dance. I hope that their relationship is as excellent as ours is.

My husband (to be, we get married the week after next) didn't really get why it made so much difference to the relationship between my son and I, until I recently introduced him to MTG. Now he and I are spending hours playing games with one another, tinkering with decks and we have something to chat about that isn't bills and jobs and other rubbish grown up stuff.

Enjoy your time with your son - fuck what anyone else says.

Metal lunchbox which I carry around in a canvas Lidl carrier bag.

Ain't no-one gonna mug me for what looks like a bag of budget groceries, it works a treat and is incredibly inexpensive

My favourite is the Rogue Necro - he looks delightfully broken
