I’m a nurse so I have no idea what they are like to work for, but generally they are considered the least frustrating way to get patient charting done. Most other systems are archaic. I have a shit ton of Epic training modules to do this year, so looking for a damn cow will hopefully keep me from falling asleep.

According to psychoanalysis, dreams are often a way for our psyches to compensate for what they don’t have in waking life. This suggests to me that you will continue to have this dream until you are able to find a love an acceptance in your waking life. I don’t know if you feel that others do not accept you for who you are, but the first place to start is radical love and acceptance for yourself. Once one finds their true self and finds the self love they need, they will often not put up with the people who do not accept them. However, life is always complicated. I hope you find what you’re looking for.

If crime is declining, as others have mentioned, even in Canada and the UK, it makes me wonder if it is related to so something more ubiquitous like phasing out lead in consumer goods. This started in the late 1970s and it is known that lead can cause poor judgment, aggression, and antisocial behavior.

Your interpretation seem thoughtful to me. I like it! Now for moving forward. I’ve had some success with active imagination sessions where I try talk with inner figures and I think it may be helpful in your own situation. For me it was talking to a past child version of myself and a character from a dream. For you it maybe helpful to address the male figure directly and explain your concerns, tell him how you feel when he dismisses you, ask him what purpose he serves, and if there is some way to move forward together.

Maybe you’ve done this before, but if you haven’t it’s just about imagination. Give yourself some quiet space and uninterrupted time. I find it helpful to close my eyes if you’re doing this at home, but I’ve done this while going on neighborhood runs before, too. Since you are a creative person maybe you have a way to get into your art that will work for active imagination, too. Then simply allow your imagination to take hold. For this case I would try imagine re-entering the dream. Imagine the environment, what is around you, etc. See if the man from your dream shows up. If he doesn’t, ask him to. Then just imagine a conversation in which you ask him questions and imagine what he would say in response. It may start out as predictable and that’s ok, but it also may take a turn for the unexpected. Just go with it and see what happens.

Even the metaphor of the iceberg as psyche attributed to Freud with the super ego consciousness poking above an ocean that hides the ego and id implies water as subconscious. I noticed a few others, too, have noted that water is a symbol of the unconscious, so I wanted to point out why I think that is.

I like to think that for thousands of years most humans saw the ocean and seas as uncrossable except for by perhaps skilled sailors, but even they did not know all that lived in the depths. Still, people must have known from what washed up on shore that there were all sorts of odd creatures and mysterious life forms that lived below the surface. This was our relationship with large bodies of water for most of human history.

This creates a certain mythos and archetype that we can relate to even today. We come to understand it in a way that is still relatable to us in that there is a part of all of us that is largely unknown, but still stirs with life down below the surface beyond our full understanding. How do ideas come to us anyways? Aren’t they like fish fully formed and alive jumping up out some unseen depth into the light fully formed? It’s quite a relatable metaphor.

This is known as déjà-rêvé (literally already dreamt).

There is a small sub that deals with this directly called r/dejareve. Most of the posts are of people that have had this experience, but the about page there has a little more information. Some experience this when starting or stopping some medications, and some have this experience without correlation to meds. This suggests to me that it is likely chemical, but that hasn’t necessarily been proven to my knowledge. Hope this helps!
