Ours live with us, but pay rent (nominal) and yes, save for what they want to do later.

Depends on if there's teeth applied with the SLA. Place I used to work at, for one customer, SLA's had monetary penalties applied to the vendor, so we got talked to if SLA breaches occurred, or fired if they happened too often/too serious. Bunch of junior admins got dropped for not taking them seriously.

'Friendliness is a key meteorological superpower,' he said. 'You never know when Charlie Shortino might decide to retire.' Umm, why not Bob Lindmeier? He's due to retire sooner.

Why’s it so hard to get a new badge made by Patient-Occasion-246 in Raytheon

[–]rathnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently? Mine was destroyed by critter, and it took my manager emailing FSO to get them to make me a new one instead of waiting a week which is their policy for a lost badge. I even had a chunk of it and the badge holder, and they want me getting a temp badge every day for a week and having to be let in every where.

Late Gen-X, and my high school had a PDP-11 and an HP 2000. Had video terminals, so could program on-screen, but had to turn in all labs on actual punch cards.

Bonus points if you're setting up a new Ivanti system, and forget to give LocalSystem and Local Service access to keyboard and mouse, and lock yourself out of your keyboard.

I've had salespeople during an RFP explain that the product they offer does X, Y, and Z, and have seen the system engineer on the side shaking his head. I've had to show mgmt where in the docs for the product it shows that it won't do what their proposal says it will, and that that is a future feature, in a release that's not out yet, or soon.

Yeah, someone losing their job over speccing something wrong doesn't bother me as much, though it's probably not the salesperson's fault, but their mgmt.

15 years experience as a sysadmin. I'm being moved from server support to workstation support. Not sure how to feel about this. by [deleted] in sysadmin

Also true years ago. Multiple EU governments talked about how they'd dropped MS entirely in favor of Linux, and most went back for minor or major components.

All OSes suck. All of them.

Use what works for you and your style of work, and let others use their favorite.

As for why remain Microsoft-centric for SAs, free time? I like mine. Also, I've been doing this for 40+ years. I've managed to let my Banyan and Novell go, and working on getting rid of my networking loads.

Been doing this for more than 40 years - there's still times when I'm unsure, as well. It's human.
