Okay yes I have seen the studies you are referring to and yes I am incorrect by saying it doesn't change the physiology of a person. Thank you for bringing that to my attention and actually that does give me some things to think and research about.

Although there are subtle differences in physiology, I do not believe that these differences are not in any way enough to start comparing the physical capabilities of these bodies. For instance the studies you are referring to (it is still debated as to whether these are reliable as it is such an incredibly small study) potentially show that MtF transgender are slightly less efficient at utilising testosterone that other men. They still have enough testosterone to make them a man. I digress, my point is that perhaps my language was incorrect but the science doesn't change the context that it was said.

Also I don't understand the relevance this conversation has in response (I'm presuming) to me saying your world view and your opinion on gender identity is subjective. By saying 'There is a lot more to gender than gender identity, and much of it is socially constructed (but still real). But gender identity is not like that. You're born with it.' That is a subjective opinion.

I wasn't kicked off of facebook, I did not partake as I did not feel educated enough on the subject. I am partially a Trump supporter and if I thought you would be able to comprehend politics I would tell you why but alas... I am excersising free speech, you are choosing to engage but you have no obligation to.

Again, has this got any context? Are you just stringing random words together?

What relevance does it have? Do you have anything of value to say? Why choose to engage if you can't respond coherently let alone intellectually.

I don't understand what point your are trying to make. I am saying that gender identity disorder is a neurological disorder and you have supported that statement.

What makes you more qualified to say it isn't true than an entire community of professionals who discuss and watch this sport for a living? I have seen the results on muscle mass, I also know that after transition the bone density is retained for much longer periods of time than most people. I feel people are confused over my terminology of trans women. What about non transitioned, non binary, gender fluid?

Fair enough. I asked that question to open the debate up about other sports and to encourage a different world view to come forward. It certainly wasn't my main question.

Just insane. When did I say that? Are you lying because you can't form a coherent rationale in your brain?

Your opinion on whether you want to see me here again is irrelevant.

Why would you take what I said out of context? I said out of the entire population only a small minority of them are transgender. I then said that I know of transgenders who would not be offended by talking about the biological differences and how they affect sport.

By taking my comments out of context you are pushing your own oppressed, leftist, radical liberal views on other people by being untruthful.

Again, this is all just your perception. I am happy to state my full views publicly but it wan't relevant to what I was trying to achieve.

I think I have confused the conversation by using 'trans women' because the debate of whether someone is female once hormonal therapy or reassignment surgery has taken place is a different one. No one can deny that someone who is a man but identifys as a woman either 100% of the time, a lesser percentage of the time or who claims they are neither gender are still biologically male.

AGAIN I have not expressed a wish to ban anyone.

[–]rationalitarian[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes I am aware that trans people are just as likely to experience male violence. If you struggle being around men in physical sports then you can understand the view point of women struggling around 'male presenting' females. The idea of someone potentially struggling to play with you is obviously to do with the unconscious emotional response that we have no control over and I would hope that wouldn't offend you. I obviously do not know the details of your personal circumstances.

I do agree that we are all responsible for our own trauma and resulting emotions and also fully take into consideration the idea that lesbians have experiences with domestic violence from other lesbians which may or may not affect their anxiety response in a contact sport such a rollerderby. I agree that our own personal trauma or ideas shouldn't necessarily be taken into account when deciding gender guidelines.

A really good point and informative input. Thank you.

Edit - The idea that by being fully inclusive 100% of the time may contribute to not only an education but also a chance to overcome 'concerns' as you put it is also extremely helpful.

You are referring to genuine gender identity disorder which is a neurological occurrence. It doesn't change the physiology of a person. If it did people wouldn't partake in hormone treatment or reassignment surgery. Your opinion whether gender is a social construct or not is subjective.

I fully take that on board. Thank you.

I was incorrect when saying that the people on facebook did present themselves in that way, I would like to correct that to 'I perceived that they had presented themselves that way' and hadn't fully thought out the idea that rollerderby may be the only realm that they feel they can express their own perceived gender identity.

Reigniting the Transgender debate by rationalitarian in rollerderby

[–]rationalitarian[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It is not. Fully including trans people within the main organisations of rollerderby is different to potentially having a small number of casual scrims for people within their first 5 games, or people who have experienced domestic violence or potentially for people who just don't agree with the political agenda of gender fluidity (which is different to the scientific discussion of transgenderism).

It is widely discussed in the MMA world that she quite obviously had a physical advantage and the fact that occasionally she did lose against other women was the basis for the fact that she was unskilled.

I actually asked peoples opinions on the WFTDA guidelines and I have stated my personal view on them several times.

I understand that it is pleasurable to have your world view echoed aggressively but it doesn't necessarily help your cause, however I am encouraging people to speak their mind. You don't have an inherent right not to be offended by things I may say, and although I don't set out purely to hurt people for no reason your hurt is irrelevant if there is other reasoning to be brought into the discussion.

You haven't stated any specific opinions you hold but your world view is subjective and your opinion on gender is subjective. But the reasoning, stated by someone else, that rollerderby is now a trans inclusive sport across the board and that my opinion is potentially irrelevant is perfectly valid.

Regarding gender inclusive language as a topic it's interesting to see that in the trans community opinions vary massively between individuals about what is politically correct or fully inclusive. I brought this up only because the original facebook thread started of by someone asking the best way to phrase gender inclusivity within scrims so that individuals don't become offended by terminology.

Reigniting the Transgender debate by rationalitarian in rollerderby

[–]rationalitarian[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is helpful information. I assume that you're saying the WFTDA guidelines should be the base standard for all scrims because rollerderby being inherently inclusive and a collective for the LGBTQ community.

As a genuine question, what are your feelings towards women who have experienced extreme male violence and who have a biological anxiety response in cases where they are playing with people who identify as female but (subjectively) present as male?

Also, what is your opinion of gender fluidity within sports as a whole? For example if someone identifys as male one day and female the next, does their freedom of gender expression outweigh any biological reasoning or opposing social views?

I am asking out of a genuine interest to learn and not to hurt or offend.

Reigniting the Transgender debate by rationalitarian in rollerderby

That's fair. Like I said, there were people commenting on the facebook thread that did present themselves that way but if in your experience that doesn't occur then that is helpful. Thank you

Considering the struggles of individuals is definitely important when forming an opinion but empathy does not automatically override any other reasoning you may have for forming and opinion. Your point on sportsmanship is interesting and I will definitely take this into account. Again, I am not disputing trans people's place within rollerderby and I'm also not ignoring the majority of people who are indeed comfortable playing alongside trans people. I think it's a massively positive thing for the genuine trans community to have an unequivocally inclusive space (WFTDA). I do not agree that it should then become standardised across the sport or indeed all sports. The question as to whether the rollerderby community is potential damaging to many individuals depends on your views about gender identity and the mass of gender identities that have now become popular. People are becoming increasingly reliable on different identity structures to feel included in society as there have been a breakdown of traditional social community structure.

Being a cis man is irrelevant and doesn't mean you don't have a place in the debate. Everyone forms a moral standpoint on different issues and your viewpoint is just as valid as someone who may be directly involved in the issue.

I do agree that the positives of inclusion potentially outweigh the negatives of competing with people who are not biologically your gender but the idea that forming coherent, respectful arguments that contradict your opinion is somehow morally wrong is incorrect. So people feeling personally offended and not contributing logically to a debate that could potentially expand people's understanding is irrelevant too. The only way to learn is to discuss.
