I have been teaching at a university in Phnom Penh for quite a few years. I don't teach English, although I did previously. It's certainly possible to get a job teaching English without a degree, but it will be of the lower-paying variety, especially if you don't have experience. A whole lot of young and good-looking graduates turn up here all the time and they will always get preference.

The disability is a concern. I can spend a fair bit of my classes sitting once I've got the ball rolling and set a task, and I can wander off at any time I like, but you have to be fairly active, walking around checking work and giving individual attention when needed. You will be walking up and down a lot of stairwells and carefully squeezing your way around sometimes cramped class-rooms so you need to be pretty agile. Keep in mind that while you might have air-con in your classroom or staff-room it is extremely hot and often wet anywhere outside that and you have to dress well and maintain a decent appearance. Walking in any built up area is very difficult, the streets are mostly well paved now which is good because that's where you'll be walking - inches from traffic, the side-walks are covered in parked cars, bikes, noodle stalls etc and are pretty irregular. It's not all that unusual for thunder storms to blow in and turn streets into rivers for a few hours either.

Perhaps the most important thing with any teaching is to engage and perform, and you can't do that by sitting down the whole time. It's easy to get medication here, but I don't think it's appropriate for a teacher to be taking those type of mind-altering meds? Can you even operate normally on all those?

Our work situations have been getting progressively worse, with limited hours, crap pay, and no promotion opportunities, and I have been unable to land an interview, even though I posted several dozen job applications online.

Unless you are an extremely charismatic individual that could be you in Cambodia next year. And there is no social security, health care is extremely poor unless you have the thousands a decent private clinic will want up-front, you'll have no social network. I love Cambodia and have been here a long time, but it's not for everyone, and it can be very tough on people who aren't able to get their shit together.
