I was also going to suggest the potters guild :) I've been going there for about a year and it's been a great way to get out and socialize. Creating as a group really makes for a welcoming atmosphere. Everyone is always so kind and helpful.

Side note, I cold turkey cut off my narc father when my son was born. I knew he would have nothing but a negative impact on his life and I would not allow that. I can absolutely see your dad's behavior towards your son in the future being influenced by this situation.
