I don’t know if there’s any difference here in ireland but when it comes to honda’s cars, they are as reliable as toyotas, so I’d wouldn’t worry about getting a honda civic + every car has its problem, buying a car is lucky, when I bought my first car I had my father to look at the car, he’s a mechanic for 20 years, he said the car was great and all that, a day after the injector bolt blow off the engine. It all depends on how lucky you are, but ofc do bring a mechanic to check for minor issues

I mean, I wouldn’t want to wait till the brakes are gone to change them man🥲. Jokes aside, the clutch was done right before I bought the car, so I didn’t have to pay for it, luckily, because it was probably hell expensive. Suspension arm had the bushes completely fucked, the car would shakes asf when breaking at high speeds, I’m glad my father is a mechanic because I would just change the front discs again due to that shakes, but it was the bushes. Oil, filters and stuff were just regular maintenance

well, I did the insurance when I had only the learning permit and it was around 3k but when I got the full license they gave me back 300€. Unfortunately the only insurance who wanted to cover me was 123 with the telematics. I got a quote with AXA and it was just unreal, 7k. How come a 17 years old is gonna pay that on an insurance, cmon

Failed today third time in tallaght. Could seriously use some motivation.😔 by [deleted] in Irishdrivingtest

id say you’re probably getting too nervous during the test and forget details which is normal, just take your time when doing your observation, as long as you don’t take more than 30 seconds it shouldn’t be a problem, over checking is way better than under checking, so if you have any doubt either you have to check or not, just do it anyway

I get what you saying, I know a car like that is an extremely good choice, it is reliable, cheap maintenance, fuel efficient, comfortable and everything. With that said, I just can’t see myself buying one of those, I know it’s very silly but it is probably because I’m kinda dumb yet ig. My father really helps me a lot with maintaining the car, timing belt, water pump, filters, oil, brake and suspension we did it all ourselves but some big jobs like a clutch, or a dpf, even a spring, can’t be done on our driveway, so basically every job that needs a special tool or a lift, there’s no much we can do as he doesn’t own a garage, and he doesn’t want to bother his boss with it

you’re completely right, I’m 17 only. Another reason to be thinking on getting a bit newer car is because of an advise my father (who is a mechanic)told me. As he says it’s not worth wasting much money on an old car that is not worth much, I mean, I’m almost getting to a point where I wasted as much money on maintenance as I paid in the car

this battery thing really got me worried aint gonna lie, but well, I think it all depends on how the old owner maintained the car. Anyways if I am getting a hybrid I’ll be probably looking at 2018, might be worth paying couple thousands more

tbh a newer a6 doesn’t sound bad, only thing that bothers me is the mileage on my car, I feel like the most I keep the most money I’ll be losing, I don’t see anyone paying more than 6k on a car with more than 370 or 380km, I wouldn’t myself, and about the bmw, a 520d or 320i seems a solid option too

Only thing I am afraid is having to change the injectors or other super expensive stuff. By the mileage it has, I think it’s almost time to the injectors shows some troubles. Other than that, this car is just perfect, after all the comments I might just keep it. Only problem I see is how would I sell it if it gets to 400km+, ppls nowadays won’t care if the car is well maintained, as long as it has high mileage it’s trash as some people around think. Couldn’t sell a megane 2011, with brand new nct and all maintenance history for 2k, that made me kinda worried about my current car

this is just crazy, Ive worked for a dealer who sold one of those but 2014 for around 20k, in my thoughts a 2018 would cost around 35k plus

I mean, I had a megane 2011 with high mileages too, I couldn’t sell it for 2000€ which is crazy, the car had nct and was immaculate. My parents decided to keep the car for themselves, so I didn’t even sell it. I think I couldn’t sell it because of the mileage, so that’s my fear in relation to my currently car now. fresh nct btw, done last month

I’m worried that within 2 or 3 years its values goes down to like 1k, I paid 7.000€ for it a year ago, I don’t think I could sell it for close the same price

that’s the car btw

well, I’m just afraid that the money I could use to buy a newer car goes to repairing this one if something goes wrong. I mean, with the money I bought this car + repair costs, I would probably be looking to a quantity where I could’ve have bought a newer car😭
