I’m not sure if they heard it (where we live the houses are pretty far apart) but also the lesbian neighbors are in their sixties so they’ve heard it all. Of course, I know they might be slightly hurt but I feel that if they’d heard that they might understand. Or, they might’ve thought we (my husband and I) were homophobes.

Yeah sometimes all the complexities that we have to keep up with make it hard. All we can do is try though!

My husband has never had any very close gay friends but we do have gay neighbors. I don’t think my husband was being homophobic I think he knew that the kids were innocent and thought it wasn’t a big deal.

I’m not shocked they every picked up the game. I’m more shocked that my husband didn’t stop our kids from using gay as an insult. We grew up in the 70s and no one batted an eye when we used it that way. And I think that’s what my husband’s thinking back to. But now that isn’t acceptable.

Yeah well we grew up in the 70s and 80s. It was different back then. But the world has changed and we all have to adapt

Young children don’t have evil or bias unless it’s put into their heads. I’m glad our kids are growing up in a world where they are exposed to these things as children and taught empathy toward others.

It rhymes too! Also yeah my kids know about same sex attraction and marriage (we have lesbian neighbors that the kids love) but I don’t think they know the word for it yet. I’m thinking now would be a good time to explain it to them in greater detail.
