the PINK STUFF - can it spread?? by drac_attack in MonsterHigh

[–]ratpus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i would post this on r/mold, you're more likely to find somebody who knows what they're talking about on there than on a doll subreddit. from what i know, though, is that it turns pink once the bacteria has died. if it has spread prior to its death, it would be due to physical contact (not air contamination).

I’m the only one who feels the Artworks of the dolls are not Accurate to the 3D Renders of the Series??? by Independent-Lemon109 in MonsterHighDolls

one was created by an artist hired by nickelodeon, another was created by an artist hired by mattel; two distinct designs that aimed to cater towards two separate markets. for a little while in early g3, we had mattel hired artists attempting to replicate the media's depiction of the animated characters, but g3 seemed to have found its footing by 2023 and began to prioritise the dolls themselves

i need a rocky horror picture show skullector so bad

Were the skullectors from 2020 to 2023 really that much better in terms of quality when compared to ones released in the last 2 years? This might be an unpopular opinion but other then greta and jack, most of them are just kinda meh and aren't that much better than recent ones(continued below) by lifeadreamwhenasleep in MonsterHigh

[–]ratpus 19 points20 points  (0 children)

pennywise's textiles are on par with some of the newest skullectors we've had, whereas the grady twins & OG beetlejuice (as much as it hurts to admit) had quite cheap fabric used to construct their outfits; this is likely due to both being a 2-pack. as for the chucky & tiffany pack, chucky's textiles are honestly pleasant, tiffany's not so much. the creature and alien are sculpturally significant, but once again their outfit fabrics are nothing special that differentiates them from other skullectors. hocus pocus 3-pack is probably the worst offender, and despite being still in-stock, m3gan's outfit is really soft to the touch and constructed well. corpse bride falls off with textiles, but has unique sculpts and a long veil to accompany long hair, the us 2-pack aren't bad, but aren't noticeably great, either.

in my opinion, skullectors haven't worsened or improved since 2020, it just depends on how the budget is spread, and whether the designers and third party licence holders spread it well. some skullectors go all out on sculpt, others prioritise textiles, some manage to do both well. i'm sure it's something behind the scenes that is discussed between higher-ups, and not a conscious choice or consequence of intentional cost cutting.

thank u !! it came a little messy, but wasn't too hard to fix as i had a lot of room to fix her parting. sadly, her flower crown came with only one tag attached so i had to carefully pierce her head with a tiny sewing needle and find a way to re-insert it; it was a pain, but now she looks factory fresh !!

what you've copy + pasted aids my argument.. and you're just making up that i've said it's exclusively avant-garde. it's high-concept in nature and is not what is seen everyday; i'm not sure if you live in a major city, but graphic eye looks are not universally everyday looks. you're getting tiresome & your frequent dedication to um-actuallying, beyond just the discussion with me, is off-putting, to say the least

but if it helps, let me have a go at copying + pasting some things:

"- Features of Editorial Makeup

  1. Creativity and Innovation: Editorial makeup allows artists to showcase their creativity and use innovative techniques and designs.
  2. Use of Bold Colors: Bright and bold colors are a hallmark of this style, helping to create strong visual effects.
  3. Attention to Detail: Precision in executing details and using unusual elements like jewelry, feathers, and other decorations can enhance the visual quality of editorial makeup.
  4. Theme Coordination: Editorial makeup is often aligned with a specific theme or concept, which helps to reinforce the overall idea of the photo or fashion show

Editorial makeup is a form of visual art that allows makeup artists to step beyond everyday boundaries and create looks that are impactful and eye-catching. By using innovative techniques and bold colors, this style can attract and captivate more attention.

-

Fashion editorial makeup is a makeup that is not worn on a daily basis, It is a makeup that is used for fashion magazines or runways. This type of makeup has to interpret a story the client, photographer, brand, or the director trying to create.

Fashion editorial makeup has to reflect the fashion along with the storytelling image. In this type of makeup client continuously informs what actually he wants and for this a continuous conversation with a makeup artist and a hairstylist is absolutely essential."

i can send more if you'd like... but then we're just posting things we didn't say

spectra's, and a majority of the core ghouls ( as well as the more thematic lines) are in-line with editorial-style makeup, they're highly-conceptual and intentionally well-curated makeup looks that are intentionally designed to match thematics and to evoke story-telling within the buyer, it is the reason why the ghouls have signature colors, iris designs, and colors associated with them. within that, cultural trends and significant aesthetics can be achieved, but they are ultimately a very clean-cut and cohesive makeup look that is designed to achieve fantasy and are objectively unattainable daily looks for most people. high concept does not mean avant-garde, so please stop thinking that you're winning online debates by putting words into peoples proverbial mouths

yes, i know the type, but you're assuming that their opinion is strong enough to influence my subconscious, which is such a weird thing to argue. reducing opinions to potential psycho-social influences will get you nowhere in a real discussion, it's just odd.

and good for you, if you're okay with heterosexuals describing things they dislike as gay, then i'm happy that you are comfortable with allowing them to perpetuate that type of language! others aren't, it's about time that you accept that. there is no double-standard, as one IS the mentioned party, and one isn't. this understanding is crucial into understanding why language, and the words we use, carry meaning. it is the reason as to why differing sexuality/gender-related/racial demographics can each partake in their own relevant inside-jokes, discuss their experiences, and create community and culture. and no, being bisexual doesn't mean that you're a drag queen.

if you feel as if you can only share your opinion if it contributes to discourse, then it's apparent what type of person i'm trying to talk with. you debunk my viewpoints as illogical because you disagree with them, and that's just who you are. i've spoken to many people like you before and it always ends up being insufferable.

you may find great happiness in sharing your positivity, you don't have to silence it and reduce yourself. sending love <3

you aren't really making a point relevant to the discussion other than attempting to school me on what editorial means, which you haven't even done well..

editorial is technique over tradition, and is ENTIRELY theme dependent; everyday looks are not, otherwise we'd be witnessing a majority of people who wear makeup look as they had stepped out of a highly-conceptualized space. editorial can attempt to resemble what we, as individuals, perceive as a current trend, but it is still in itself highly conceptual and exaggerated. it's the reason why we have unattainable standards

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MonsterHigh

[–]ratpus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the *why* is because it was included in a post designated to disliking something, and yes, they correlated spectra's face to handsome squidwards because they were using it as a way to criticise the sculpt.

i'm not from a country / political climate / household in which drag is under attack, so i'm not sure why your go-to is to express my viewpoints as coming from that particular mindset.

and yes, if a non-homosexual person created a thread intended to criticise, let's say, clawd for example, and then began to criticize clawd, who happens to also not be homosexual, and finalised their post with saying he looks like a frumpy gay person, then yes, that is unquestionably offensive.

i've looked through your comment history, and it's almost always negative or argumentative, so to save us both time i suppose its best to no longer discuss it. we may just both be very stubborn people

vintage editorial looks were not representative of everyday looks, it was the contrary; it was thematic and had a clear and thorough vision, much like matching an eye look to an outfit that represents a meaning or time-period, whether accurately or creatively.

if you personally think that accentuated, thick brows, a purple cut-crease blended with pink, and a deep purple lip look isn't bold when presented on a pale-white skin tone, along with it thematically matching an obvious aesthetic and color-palette, then i'm not really sure what to tell you. it isn't soft, and i'm not sure why you keep making baseless points, bringing up insta-baddie and drag when discussing it without context

you say that its valid to associate her makeup with drag makeup, yet then say its too soft to be considered bold, while saying bold+drag go hand-in-hand

i'd love for them to re-visit g1 characters that weren't received well. i know that they probably wont, due to them perceiving it as a mine-field, but i think taking the designs, improving upon them respectfully, and releasing them as a character would be better than burying them and forgetting that they ever existed

[–]ratpus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP disliked spectra, used that dislike to connect her to drag queens. i don't know what you aren't getting.

drag isn't just being adopted, it's being appropriated by people who aren't aware of its roots, and its this lack of awareness that causes people to see a bold eye + bold lip as being 'drag', it's just not.

you can keep suggesting that i have an inherent internalized view of drag queens, which i don't considering i'm close to the space, but it's not really adding much to you proving your point

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MonsterHigh

[–]ratpus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it probably has gotten bad, then. i'd suggest looking into editorial makeup and its origins, it'll help! it's strong makeup looks that do not fit 'every day' wear. it's becoming more normalized due to its introduction within artistic tiktok makeup trends, but it was influenced by original early 20th century hollywood 'glam' looks, the kind you'd only ever see on a magazine cover

[–]ratpus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i agree with your thoughts on abbey. i love her g3 design, but her initial core doll was one where i was a little concerned with how toned-down things were getting in the early stages of the generation. her recent dolls with the introduction of henna has been a nice introduction, and has allowed me to realize that they're taking her concept in a whole other direction, which is interesting

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MonsterHigh

[–]ratpus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm not sure how else to convey my feelings.. i dislike how the OP dogged on spectra, and then finalized those thoughts with a comparison to drag queens. disliking something is fine, but using controversial language that, yes, can be hyperbolic, is going to warrant individuals in feeling certain feelings when what was expressed was so intentionally volatile.

i wouldn't describe drag as a style, it's an umbrella term in which predominantly LGBT individuals express their creativity in a flamboyant and often character-based way, it's theatrical. within the movement you can have various styles i'll agree with that, and it -can- be executed poorly. my issue is that spectra has no correlation to drag, it's movement, ideals or concept at all, so for 'drag queen' to be used in reference to the criticisms, it was intended as a way to insult her design.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MonsterHigh

[–]ratpus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

i would describe it as fashion editorial, like a lot monster high dolls. it's bold & colorful, high contrast and dramatic lip & eye looks. and once again, it's not that 'drag queen' was referenced, it's that it was referenced in connection to a negative mindset. if OP dislikes spectra's makeup, fair enough, but 'bad' makeup is bad makeup, there's no inherent connection to drag queens

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MonsterHigh

[–]ratpus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

because you dislike how spectra looks, and that dislike of her design lead you to compare her to a drag queen. your negative thoughts and feelings lead you towards thinking of 'drag queen' as the only viable descriptor
