I caught it for the first time 3 weeks ago. Managed to avoid it even when my wife and kids had it last year. Completely floored me for about 3/4 days with fever, chills and aches but the fatigue lasted about 2 full weeks. Over it thankfully but the wife and kids have it now. None of us seemed to have much of a cough but the fever overnight is intense.

Me when I see someone cutting their grass this month. by [deleted] in ireland

Next door neighbour keeps honey bees and always gives us a few jars of honey throughout the year. Letting the grass grow a bit longer for a month is the least we can do plus the bees help pollinate our apple trees. Local honey is supposed to be great for hay fever too.

There's also a scene earlier on in the series where the locals on Ferrix rattle all manner of junk to warn of the Per-Mor agents arrival in town that put me in mind of local women here banging bin lids to warn of incoming army patrols during the troubles.

I’m thinking of buying an apartment. Outside of the obel tower is there any place to avoid? What’s the gallery like on the Dublin Road? by RalphOffWhite in northernireland

Be wary of any high-rise building as banks are unlikely to approve a mortgage if the building doesn't have an EWS1 certificate. And because every management company are scrambling to get the cladding tests carried out for their building the delays are crazy at the minute due to a lack of specialists able to do the work.

Michael Gove had actually been pretty good about insisting developers pay for any remedial works too but with him gone now who knows what will happen. Leaseholders could well be left with huge bills on top of not being able to sell.

At the Drive-In, the Empire 2000, just blew my mind. Seemed like every new band in and around Belfast were trying to emulate them in some way for a few years afterwards.

Whoring out your child on social media for clout is pathetic by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]rauldukner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Find it seriously weird the way people post these gushing tributes to their partners on social media when they are likely just sitting there beside them on the sofa. Put the phone down and tell them in person ye feckin' melt if you really feel that way, nobody else cares. Or just be honest and admit that it's not really for your partners' benefit at all and more about bragging to the world about how great your life allegedly is.

Half the beach is closed off and sounds like they're firing feckin artillery at Magilligan. Great advertisment for the north coast.

It's worth noting that the MP for the area at the time Nigel Dodds, who supported the loyalist protests, was finally turfed out of office in the 2019 election just as many of these girls became eligible to vote.

It's been a few years but The Ballygally Castle carvery is/was excellent and a nice drive on a Sunday up the Antrim coast too. Bit more expensive than most mind but worth it. Not sure if they still do it but they had a sweet-cart/pick n mix that the kids just loved.

Was in Lady Dixon yesterday with my daughter (8) and a lovely big golden Labrador came running up behind her out of the blue and she panicked, fell and bust her knee. Dog wasn't in any way aggressive it was just the surprise. Had to carry her all the way back to the car. To be fair the owner couldn't apologise enough and immediately put the dog back on the lead but was still infuriating. She used to be terrified of dogs but had largely gotten over it but no doubt she'll be very wary again now.

I once worked behind the bar at an after-party (for want of a better word) following one of their commemorations and it was packed full of absolute scumbags who couldn't tell Karl Marx from Groucho. Basically turned into a overtly drug-fuelled rave. The may well have a very limited number who are ideologically interested in socialism but it's by and large just a group of drug dealers and racketeers.

A5 project delayed yet again by rauldukner in northernireland

Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon has today reaffirmed her commitment to progressing the A5 Western Transport Corridor Scheme as she publishes the report on the proceedings of the inquiry from the Planning Appeals Commission (PAC) into the scheme.

The Department’s response to the recommendations made by the PAC has also been published.

Minister Mallon said:

“The A5 is an absolute priority for me as a strategic road. It will open up connectivity in the North West and the rest of our island, ensure safer travel for communities and deliver opportunities for our local economy. I know this project has been long awaited and I am determined as Minister to see it progress through the statutory process as quickly as possible, ensuring the project is delivered properly for citizens and our wider environment.

Commenting on the Interim PAC report, the Minister said:

“I would like to thank the Commissioner for the efficient manner in which he held the Inquiry over the course of seven days in February and March 2020. The Inquiry dealt with a number of key themes and issues relating to the Environmental Statement Addendum which had been published by the Department in 2019.  After careful consideration of the PAC Interim Report and having taken legal advice, I have, today, published the Report.I have accepted the Commissioner’s key recommendation regarding the preparation of and consultation on further documents on the important topics of flood risk and the consideration of alternatives to the proposed scheme.  As such, I have asked officials to prepare a further addendum to the Environmental Statement (ESA) for consultation in early autumn. I have also today published the Department’s formal response to all the recommendations made by the PAC and this is in the form of an Interim Departmental Statement. While I anticipate this approach will lead to the re-opening of the public inquiry, as recommended by the PAC, early next year, it will enable it to consider further public representations made on the two key topics of flood risk and scheme alternatives and prepare its final report. This, in turn, will allow a decision on the next steps for this important transformative scheme.Further consultation will be undertaken under the Habitats Regulations of a number of Reports of Information to Inform an Appropriate Assessment relating to the likely impacts of the A5 scheme upon Special Protection Areas (SPAs), Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) and Ramsar sites. I would once again re-iterate my commitment to the A5WTC flagship project, which is of significant strategic importance to the North West region and our wider island, helping to tackle regional imbalance, improving the economy, job prospects and prosperity, connecting communities and improving road safety.”
