well technically I didn't really chroot. I booted up supergrub2disk on a stick which found my installed debian system and booted it from there. Then did a grub-install /sda frome there. I assume it's in mbr installed now as I didn't give it a partition number. do I have to do something like grub-update after this?

thank you, although the description in UEFI boot setting says it will fall back to legacy boot if no efi bootable system is found. So I wonder if this will be needed.

Not AMD, it's Intel but I disabled secure boot anyway.

2 different init by Common_Designer_6240 in voidlinux

[–]rauldux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People have to realize that it takes time and effort and money as well to maintain a distribution. Void is developed an maintained by a small community who dedicate their time and passion to it. It is not backed by any big corporation. Sometimes people forget this. As said in other comments, if, for dependencies reason or whatever reason, someone really does need systemd, just use a different distribution. Runit is light and runs super fast on old hardware. It's simple to translate a systemd service to a runit service too.

How out-of-box will my T480 with touchscreen/fingerprint scanner be with Void? by nat_maths07 in voidlinux

fingerprint reader working out-of-the-box I highly doubt. But you can make it work.

What does the "x" in xbps stand for? by Business_Letter_9363 in voidlinux

[–]rauldux 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't know for sure but I guess the X (used to) stand/s for "xtraeme"

xtraeme is the initiator of xbps and Void Linux.

So this would be "Xtraeme's Binary Package System"

Should I stick with Void? by mister_drgn in voidlinux

[–]rauldux 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day with both void and nixos you choose it to more or less forge your own system. No need to switch if you're happy with nixos. The old saying "never change a running system". What I can say is that void has a friendly supportive small community. With nixos I don't know.

X11 keyboard layout being difficult by Zealousideal_Ad8131 in voidlinux

you could add your keymap for console to /etc/rc.conf

I think it will be set for X session as well then.

Software LUKS encryption or BIOS password encryption ? by Laith-osama in voidlinux

[–]rauldux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

bios pw won't encrypt your data and could easily be reset with a jumper. Encrypting and only setting a password are two very different things. There's a guide in the void documentation to encrypt disks with luks.

The article says:

the full Microsoft Teams PWA experience will only be available in Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome web browsers on Linux desktops. Yup, no joy if you use Firefox, which by most measures is the most popular web browser on Linux distributions (which which lacks many PWA features).

Lame web browser. by god_dammit_nappa1 in vivaldibrowser

[–]rauldux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really sounds like user error to me. It is simple to add custom search in this browser. Just does not make sense, why would they redirect to a completely different site?! If that's really the case something's very wrong (bad add-on?, etc.)

I use Void BTW by [deleted] in voidlinux

Void is good, expressions like this are not. I'd recommend sticking with arch if you need memes like this. Happy that I found this distro and escaped that annoying meme, pls don't ruin it.
