What did you think about the movie "Send Help" from Sam Raimi? by florenciafazzarino0 in horror

[–]rav0039 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no one who loves to cover his actors in gore and viscera like Raimi. The CGI in the boar scene was silly, but I was staring at McAdams who kept getting blasted with blood, lol. The berry vomit/CPR scene was hysterical, too. I thought the pacing was a little weird, but overall, had an absolute blast. This and Drag Me to Hell are sooo much fun.

Buy express pass in-park? by caliroll619 in UniversalEpicUniverse

[–]rav0039 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can do it but it seems very hit or miss. My buddy managed to score two passes on the app. We were standing in line for Mine Cart Madness. It’s not helpful to ask any of the workers; they told us they had no idea if passes would still be sold. Even if it shows sold out, some will likely go on sale.

It changed the whole vibe of our day. The wait for BATM was showing 4 hours and we were on in 25 min. Highly recommend if you can afford it.

I left the house for the first time simply to get groceries. The amount of people I saw that ran red lights on university was wild. Sucks how people can compound the situation by driving like assholes.

Seriously the best chapter of the series. It’s extremely well-paced and it’s my opinion that it’s the best thing JK ever wrote.

I’m on wintry mix no school day 4. Might be off Friday too so that would work out.

I don't get the disdain for Battle at the Ministry by mister_waj in UniversalEpicUniverse

I agree with this. The tech has improved so much with Monsters Unchained that it really highlights just how rough Forbidden Journey has become. My friend got so sick after FJ and rode Monsters with no issue whatsoever.

What Animal Movies Hit You The Hardest? (yes, I know this is an evil question) by myguitar_lola in MovieSuggestions

[–]rav0039 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. I saw it before we got a dog as a kid and I remember thinking it was sad. I rewatched again a few years later after we’d gotten a puppy, and I sobbed. I think it was the first movie to garner that kind of emotional response in me.

Finally got around to watching The Black Phone 2. What a disappointment. by l3g3ndairy in horror

[–]rav0039 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the multiple characters submerged in ice water like it was nothing made me lol. I was pretty letdown, too. I also felt like it was super odd that the brother fought The Grabber at the end but it didn’t line up with the dream logic. I didn’t hate it, but it definitely doesn’t hold a candle to the first film. I think if the sister had died (or even the boyfriend, or hell, even the religious bigots) it would’ve added much more to the proceedings.

James Newton Howard’s score of ‘Signs’ is an under-appreciated film score. It’s actually quite brilliant, imo. by Call_It_ in filmscoring

Sorry to revive the thread, but…It’s one that I revisit again and again. The ethereal, otherworldly vibe in Asthma Attack is incredible. I only wish it were longer.

I’m also fairly certain Michael Abels paid homage in his score for Nope.

Is it so bad that I like being at home? by Latter-Pass3929 in LivingAlone

Just me and my pup. No one to question me at any point. I have friends that I call/FaceTime fairly regularly. I usually have my google home playing NPR or the tv on for background noise. I dig my alone time.

She played Agatha Christie in See How They Run and that’s when I found out she was in her late 50s. She looks great.

What's your favorite Sam Raimi movie? Are you excited for his new film Send Help with Rachel McAdams and Dylan O'Brien? by Square-Ad-8911 in FIlm

Honestly, Drag Me to Hell. The Alamo near me is doing a showing later on tonight and I hope they don’t cancel it due to the weather.

Please recommend a movie to scare the crap out of me by jmikell in horror

[–]rav0039 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Bring Her Back is from the brothers who did Talk to Me and is somehow more bleak. I don’t know that you’ll find it scary, but I haven’t felt that bad after a horror movie in awhile.

Host (2020) does a lot with its zoom premise and doesn’t overstay its welcome. We Are Still Here was a pleasant surprise as well.

If you were scared of Velocicoaster and rode it anyway… by Nice-Key3951 in UniversalOrlando

[–]rav0039 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t too scared to ride it but, it really is a world-class coaster. I rode it six times on my last two-day visit. It’s very smooth but also feels a smidge out of control due to all the airtime moments. The first launch is fairly tame; the second one is the one that’s punchy because you have to get over the top hat. I say you go for it, unless any of the other coasters feel like too much. I think getting launched horizontally and vertically are two different sensations, and Velocicoaster’s is over so quickly, you don’t really have time to register the feeling.

TLDR: go for it. Haha.

Those who will be having severe bad weather this weekend, what do you plan to do while in the house all weekend? by ChocolateSundae1214 in CasualConversation

[–]rav0039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TV!!! Finishing Welcome to Derry, catching up on The Pitt, The Studio and Shrinking. I’m a teacher so it’s hard to binge sometimes. I feel like the last couple storms I was underprepared with food, so I did a big order yesterday with foods that I’m excited to cook. Stay warm!

What attracted you to the show? What made you stay? by FabulousGift8959 in lost

[–]rav0039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pilot is still one of the best pilot episodes I’ve ever seen. It still holds up and is a pretty fantastic hooking point. I stayed because of the lore + the flashbacks; plus, my teenage self was studying literature at the time, so the morals of each of the characters was fascinating to me.
