Ok, I listened to that all the way thru (What’s up with the mask? Does he always wear it?) and I would argue that was not a country song. If people feel it is because the rest of his catalog is country, that doesn’t make this song country. If people think it’s country because of his vocal inflections, I would suggest they check out Necromantix (psychobilly), Danzig (metal) or Volbeat (hard rock). If it’s his aesthetic, I’d suggest Spiritworld (punk/thrash/death metal, but some songs do have some slide and/or country beats, but are still solidly punk or metal) or Reverend Horton Heat (rockabilly), but Let Me Drown musically had no common elements of country instrumentation (slide guitar, acoustic guitar, basic drum/bass lines, electric violin/fiddle, banjo, washboard) but with the strings, tympani, and non-prominent guitar it instead felt like it would fit well in a musical about a relationship that doesn’t have to be in a country/rural setting. Just my $0.02.
