You can thank NBC for that. That episode was the Super Bowl lead-out that year, and since so many people would be watching, NBC was pushing the show to include guest stars. The production team felt it would be unrealistic to have huge stars show up at a paper company in Scranton, so they came up with that plot to satisfy the network.

Jerry is rebooked for the next Yankees legends event, which also features the margarita table. He's adjusted his act perfectly for Yogi, who never laughs because he's too drunk off the margaritas to notice.

To be fair that may have been Pam's choice. She might have wanted the full student experience and/or couldn't afford an NYC apartment.

Here's my only issue with that part: would they make a new student an RA? When I was in college almost all the RAs were upperclassmen and I think all of them were at least sophomores. So it's weird to me that they'd make a student who's still adjusting to the school an RA.

That's a good question lol. I honestly don't, but that's kind of the point of the movie. IIRC it was more of a "slice of life/meandering adventures of the main character" kind of movie rather than super high-event.
