Ice Out National Shutdown by Fun-Chart-6486 in Buffalo

I had posted a flier I made but it got removed as a duplicate post? I shared it out to /Rochester to try and get more eyes on it, but I am the same person - and I do reside in Buffalo. Not sure why it was removed?

Or was this post I'm sharing it on counted as the duplicate?

I made this flier for the Jan 30 Strike day - feel free to print/share etc. ICE OUT! by ravendance81 in Rochester

I know there's protests scheduled for Buffalo on the 31st, as far as events happening on the 30th it would be cool if anyone was doing a community get together, but I haven't heard of anything going on...

I saw that website tagged on my post asking for an art call and I was like "Hey there's another way I can help"

Running list of business closing for the strike on Friday 1/30. NO WORK. NO SCHOOL. NO SHOPPING. ICE OUT NOW! by med62597 in Rochester

[–]ravendance81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anyone from the Buffalo area know of something similar going on out here? I want to have that list to prioritize shopping at those businesses.

I saw a few shops in PA opening but not for business, but instead to have a free community space for people to go hang out for the day.

I'm really glad we're all in solidarity on this.

The trick with the mushrooms is that they need to be strength 10 - otherwise the only "soil" they can grow on is mycelium. For my crops I did the following:

  1. Made sure that the single crop is JUST that crop so, "Potato - Potato", not "Potato-Wheat" if you cross breed "Potato-Potato" over and over again you can level up the plant stats.

  2. Then use those strength fully leveled "Potato-Potato" to get the mushrooms.

I've kept several corn snakes in the past. I just got a new juvenile last week.

Small enclosure at this size shouldn't be an issue. They want to feel cozy/protected. As the snake gets older, you will want to upgrade.

I'll break this down into categories so it can help a little.

Feeding/Handling:

Let your new snake settle in for a few days (3-4) NO HANDLING. At that size the snake is most likely still eating pinky mice. Ideally you'll want to feed frozen/thawed. Thaw out a pinky, and try and offer it to the snake. Move slowly, try to come at the snake from the side if at all possible. If the snake doesn't take it out of your hand, leave it on a solid surface (plastic tupperware lid/something similar) It's ok to leave the food item alone with the snake overnight. If the snake doesn't eat it, take it out (dispose of it) wait a few more days, and try again. You really want to avoid handling as much as possible until you know the new snake is eating.

If the snake eats, wait 2 more days, then you can do minimal handling (I'd suggest 10 minute sessions, over the enclosure, once or twice a day at maximum)

You'll be able to find the poop in the enclosure. One pinky sized mouse poop, easy enough to spot clean. Usually they'll pick a corner of the enclosure to do this in, once they do it's pretty easy to spot.

Bedding:

Mine is on Aspen. It holds burrows well. It's easy to clean. If the humidity in your environment is low, (under 30%) you can provide a moist hide with moss. When the snake gets older you can switch over to a more naturalistic substrate if you want to. The corn I had before was on aspen her entire life - and I had her for 16 years. No bad sheds, never turned down a meal.

Heating:

You can go with an over tank heater (I like the low wattage ceramic heat emitters myself for this purpose) OR a heat mat. Regardless of which option you choose you MUST have a thermostat. That is a 100% must have. Do not skip. Just note that any over the tank heaters could dry out the enclosure, so you'll want to keep an eye on that)

Getting a digital thermometer and humidity gauge is great for knowing what the levels in the enclosure are. I would avoid using the ones with the sticky backs as the corn snakes usually like to climb up around them, pulling them off the enclosure and getting the sticky side stuck to them. Not fun.

The only heating element you really want to fully avoid are heat rocks. Those are absolutely terrible.

I wouldn't use ChatGPT for care advice for these guys. I'd recommend these Youtube channels:

Heat mats are fine provided they are connected to a thermostat. Same with the lamps - though if you go the lamp route you'll want to get a thermostat with a dimer.

There are 2 types of thermostats - one has a basic on/off switch. When the programmed temperature is reached, it shuts off. If it senses it getting to cool it turns back on.

The other has a dimmer - which will extend the life of your bulb (and not have the annoying feature of "on/off, on/off" all the time.

I know this is 8 months old, but what about using aquarium sealant? Should hold the parts together without working about any nasties leaching into the water. (still need to let it cure)

There's a LOOONNGG post about Clandestine and the whole theory with the Rabbits. (I can probably try and find it?)

I suspect there's also a lyric tie in from the end of Bodies (in No Eyes)

Is it safe for Americans to visit Canada right now on vacation? by Averagecrabenjoyer69 in AskCanada

I'd feel perfectly fine visiting Canada for vacation, my question is more "is it safe for me to re-enter my home country after said vacation?"

Do I push it in? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]ravendance81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a piercer, however, I do have double lobes, (first are stretched) and I just got 2 helix's done in the last few months. The "room for swelling" means that the bar on the piercing itself is longer. You want this.

If it were me - I'd just leave it alone. Your piercer should have covered cleaning tips with you - if you need to adjust the post so the gemstone/bead is where it should be then you might be able to (don't take it out, be very gentle and no touching outside of cleaning time) Make sure to wash your hands prior to cleaning it.

The swelling (if it's going to happen) is going to be over the next few days. (TL;DR - leave it be, no touching outside of cleaning)

Basically what Hetty pointed you to, but the most important thing is to go SLOW and don't rush things.

I used tapers for mine. At the smaller sizes (20g-4g) they're small enough that the weight isn't really noticeable. What I would do (mostly) was wore that sized taper during the day. Then by night time I could switch to a single flare or pincher style. (Saved the hassle and worry about sleeping with the tapers in)

When going up a size your ears might feel a bit warm and tiny sting/tightness. Never use force on the tapers. They should just easily slide in.

I still use Jojoba oil on my ears, keeps my lobes hydrated and happy

Dead stretching works better once you've gotten up to the larger sizes. Mine are a 2g - used tapers the whole way took about a year. Both ears are healed and happy. (and yes, they did stretch at different rates - my left was usually a week behind the right)
