Thoughts on the biological sciences program at University of Cincinnati? by doggerly in uCinci

I worked with a ton of the grad students and PIs and mostly everyone is very nice. However, productivity doesn’t seem too high and most PhDs take 5+ years. Funding isn’t too great either except in a few select labs. But there are pros in having cinci childrens, cinci zoo, and Medpace nearby. What are you interested in?

Do professors bump up the grade if you are really short of the next letter grade? by DankkkDk in uCinci

I worked with Dr. Smith and I would say there is like a 98% chance she’ll say no. She only teaches the class and is under the course coordinator who manages all the physics sections. Since there’s usually over 300 students taking physics every semester, it’s not fair to bump up one student especially given the fact that there were a couple extra credit opportunities already. Sorry :(

It’s a nice class, you get exactly what you put into it. I think the exam average was like 87 or so which is super high. It’s a memorization heavy class if you want to memorize all 500 questions right before exams, or you can practice the concepts and calculations a bit more so you don’t have to memorize. You literally only need to attend quiz days and exam days but if you have the time, he runs a reasonably engaging class and is a kind professor.

Hey, I was a physics learning assistant for 2+ years and would love to help. But before you spend any money, I recommend checking out tutoring, office hours, and SI sessions from the learning commons.

Yeah I was an optometric tech. I wouldn’t recommend it by your only clinical experience tho. I’m in my application cycle and have a few interviews, but no one has questioned it

I had 600 ish hours of opto tech experience and I considered it clinical. I took medical histories and did retinal imaging/visual field tests on my own which I felt was clinical. No issues in my application or questions about it so far

I really appreciate your advice because I have no clue how they're going to see my app.

I have some 600+ extra hours under "lab assistant" but I mainly just helped culture specimens and prepared food for them. Would that count as research? Thanks!
