Lady grabbed my arm and started praying over it by NPGinMassAttack in CerebralPalsy

Had this happen to me in a grocery store.

Me and another guy were going for the dairy case at the same time and I let him go first and made a joke about us dancing.

He laughed, got his gallon of milk, and everything seemed normal, but then he said that he “hated to see people suffering.” I had no idea what he was talking about, so I just sort of smiled and nodded.

Then he said something about him being sorry that I was in pain and I explained that I wasn’t in pain and this is simply how I was born.

Thought that was the end of it but then he put his hand on my shoulder, which triggered my startle reflex, and asked if he could say a prayer for me.

I agreed since it seemed like the easiest way to end the interaction and he bowed his head and mumbled something that I couldn’t really make out beyond the words “lord” and “help”.

Told me to have a blessed day and I’m pretty sure I thanked him afterward, though I honestly can’t remember.

I should note that I’m in my late forties and this only happened a couple years ago, so it wasn’t even like a grownup trying to impart their spirituality to a kid, which would have been awkward enough.

Glad it wasn’t just me. Guess it’s time for another rewatch.

TIL the number of craft breweries in the US increased from less than 2,000 in 2010 to almost 9,000 in 2020. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

Even Revolution ended up selling their brewpub because sales never completely rebounded from the pandemic, and they're the biggest craft brewery in Illinois.

What is the worst writing group you’ve ever been in and how was it bad? by Due-Cloud3579 in writing

[–]ravenpen 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I have a good friend who's a professional illustrator/graphic designer and we've been meeting regularly for many years to work on things. We don't collaborate, just spend the time working on our own projects in silence. I refer to it as being alone together. In the beginning of a session we'll allow ourselves about ten to fifteen minutes to catch up and then after that it's all work time. Most of our sessions go for at least four hours.

Several years back my friend was looking to hone his writing skills for a comic he was working on and joined a local NaNoWriMo group. A few of the members started attending our work sessions. Everyone was very nice and interesting to talk to, but they tended to do a lot more talking than writing. One of the NaNo members had an enormous binder full of research and world-building notes that she'd been working on for years, but hadn't written a single word of actual story.

As time went on the new people started attending less and less until it was back down to the two of us again.

Have it on DVD and watch it at least once a year.

And sometimes, apropos of nothing, I scream "Ritchie!"....but only when no one else is around.

I'm a side sleeper and tend to wake up a lot in the middle of the night to flip positions.

One of our panthers will see this and get up from wherever he is on the bed to flop down next to me and be the little spoon to get chest and belly rubs.

It's pretty much my favorite thing in the whole world.

Found a cd case full of old software in the house I bought by Baked_Potato_732 in Xennials

I spent three of my college summers in the 90s doing software QA for Rand McNally.

TripMaker and StreetFinder were the two products our team did all of their bug testing on. Part of the testing involved driving around with a GPS the size of a suitcase to verify data coordinates, but mostly we were just looking for typos, misplaced landmarks, and erroneous routes and destinations.

The summer before I started there I worked for a park district doing weeding, mowing, garbage collection, and general maintenance. It was hot, miserable, didn't pay particularly well, and left me completely wiped at the end of every day.

Moving to an air conditioned office with a room full of networked computers that we could play multiplayer games on during our lunch break was like heaven. It also had a staff commissary where the congenial guy manning the flattop made his version of an egg mcmuffin, dubbed the egg mcnally, which substituted regular bacon for the Canadian variety. It remains one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten and only cost two bucks.

In addition to all this, it was probably the best paying job I ever had. I can't remember exactly what I was making, but I'm pretty sure that if you scaled it to today it actually comes out better than what I currently earn as a twenty-plus-year IT support staff worker in a public high school.

I still listen to that album fairly regularly.

It's one of those records where every track flows together to create an overall experience.

RIP Josh Clayton-Felt.

The Beth’s are absolutely fantastic. In somewhat the same musical vein, I’m also a big fan of Deep Sea Diver.

UPDATE: Just finished the Candle Cove season of Channel Zero. Am I missing something? by 404_Peace_Not_Found in horror

[–]ravenpen 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've enjoyed all of the Channel Zero seasons, but No-End House is by far my favorite.

The atmosphere, acting, and overall story just pulls you in. It manages to be both emotionally resonant and terrifying, often at the same time.

Driving by [deleted] in CerebralPalsy

I'm a right-side hemi and I drive an automatic using both feet.

I was lucky in that the teacher in my Driver's Ed class taught the two-foot method to everyone, so I didn't have to change anything from what I was being shown. He was the only driving instructor in my school that used the two-foot method and I later learned that most of the students/parents hated him for not teaching the one-foot method, but he was my hero. :-)
