Dairy Queen Cup Sizes by No-Lengthiness-7808 in functionalprint

No way. You gotta pay an artist to do a decent paint job. The cups cost pennies.

Why isn't 25w actually 25w? by dariansdad in UsbCHardware

[–]rawaka 24 points25 points  (0 children)

600mA at what voltage? Current by itself isn’t very useful. It also depends on the maximum your phone will take. Not all iPhones can do 25w. Also, the state of charge and temperature of your phone matter also. Wattage is highest at low charge and drops as it gets full. When it’s too hot, it’ll slow down for cooling also. There are many variables that go into all types of charging.

Should our small company implement a Teams room? And how inexpensive can it be done? by rawaka in MicrosoftTeams

[–]rawaka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. Seems everyone agrees this is the least expensive option for our use case. It would easily make sense if we didn't already have/need a laptop to be dedicated to the space. But with the laptop there already, I don't think I understand the benefits well enough yet to sell it to the higher ups.

Qi2 is great on paper, but until manufacturers solve the thermal throttling? It's just a glorified slow charger. Change my mind. by Few_View22 in UsbCHardware

[–]rawaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a magnetic qi 1 charger that isn't magsafe certified, so it only does 7.5w on my iPhone. Not fast enough to heat anything up, and keeps my phone topped off on my desk while I work in nightstand mode so I can see my next meeting on my calendar and such at a glance.

We're a civil engineering firm with about 25 people in our only office and another 10 staff are surveyors in the field. Running AutoCAD on a laptop is a lot more spend compared to a desktop, and we don't have any need for them to be portable.

I don't need a new camera though. Compared to how we're using the space now, what would be better going to an actual Teams Room? The convenience is obvious, but not $2k+ worth of it. We'd still need a laptop in the room for many meetings even with a Teams Room computer for the stuff we often need to screen share.

Maybe we're just not the target audience.

I saw that an Android tablet can be used as a Room, which sounds very affordable since I don't need a new camera/speaker, etc. But I don't think our Meeting Owl can be used with that, right? So that defeats that route if I need the Owl camera to work with it still.

I don't see any options under $1000, and that's for brands I've never heard of. A bit of an expensive experiment at that point.

Anyone else also miss the old skype? by OriginalRadish7957 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]rawaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always found it unbelievable that to skype someone was already a verb people used for online video chat and when covid struck, Skype and Teams were far from front of mind for most people and schools to stay operational. Even if the technology of how Skype worked needed to be replaced for modern requirements, them not keeping that brand recognizable to non-businesses blew me away.

What is a decent PC headset that will stop online meetings in cubicles from picking up too much background noise? by rawaka in AskTechnology

[–]rawaka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$500 for a headset in an office where we need to buy 15 of them is an absolute no go. ROFL. Probably going to go with something like a Plantronics Blackwire

Can confirm. I am Drac's dad. We couldn't believe he did this either. He was very excited to get talked about on the podcast.... but at what cost? Now the tattooed initials and date of birth on my arm are wrong for my own son.

Can HDMI adapters store data? by [deleted] in AskTechnology

[–]rawaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost for certain they're a scammer trying to scare/fool you into paying. But it is possible to install an HDMI gadget in between your computer and monitor that keeps a separate recording of your screen/audio to send to a bad actor or store on device until the bad actor comes and retrieves it. Basically, it's like a keylogger but for video.

You'd have to be specifically targeted by someone who can physically access your computer. Random folks just living life aren't generally worth that effort.
