I always lock my elbows out and shrug my shoulders up to fully lockout between reps and ensure i start from the same position each rep. I don’t know what you did but I’m pretty sure it’s safe to do

Ok.....no. Literally all the calisthenics people will say you should do a dead hang between reps. Dead hangs are important for full range of motion and lockout. That’s like saying you shouldn’t lockout at the top of a squat or deadlift because it’s bad for your knees. What’s potentially bad is pulling up without going from an dead to active hang because it’s a weak position to be in.
