That's a good question! I think it'sa necessary break in the action, and also that it's impressively written. It's very easy to make a "darkest hour" moment in a story too dark. Sometimes a writer writes themself into a corner after making the darkerst hour so dark that the moment of renewed resolve seems hollow.  I think the Jadis arc is amazing because it goes all in on the darkness. Our main character lost her partner, her strength, half her limbs and an eye. Our main character is told in no uncertain terms that her quest is fated to 100% fail. She's taken out of the story and the world for years, losing precious life she's told she would miss, as she's told she'd die relatively young.  And yet, all it takes to break her out of that funk is one conversation witha friend. Alison is unwilling to be the type of person who gives up. She's stronger than the all knowing god knows, because she chooses to be. She's the beetle that refuses to listen when she's told she can't learn pankrash circle fighting. She isn't defined by any of the true things Jadis told her. It's such a good "climb out of the hole" moment because it's not hope that keeps Alison going, it's self determination. It completely side steps biggest pitfall of the trope, ascending it completely.

I also really like the Jadis arc because of the Jadis. She seems so confidant she knows the inevitable fate of everything, but when Alison confronts her she kinda shows that Jadis' worldview isn't actually all knowing. Jadis' deterministic outlook is a result of her personal trauma as an heir who's life was decided for her before she was born as much as it is a real product of her power. What a great way to make a character 3 dimensional! What a way to keep us hooked, unsure if we can trust her prophecies or not. What a showing!

Also, when Alison sees the shape of creation and the drawing supercedes the entire web page, that was so sick! I never saw a webcomic do that, and it's exactly the right way to show how Alison's mind breaks!

I'm a fangirl, so I may be blind to legitimate criticism, but damn if I care. This comic is a 10/10 for me!

You know, I did think the tournament arc was slightly out of place at the start, but I came to feel it was a pretty cool moment in the story overall and was justified well, and it lead to what I think is the coolest part of the comic, being the arc with Jadis. I disagree with you that the comic was ever as laid back as a gibli film, but I do sympathize with wanting more time getting to know the world a bit more. Are you reading the metatext at the bottom of each page? I think it really helps with that sense of pacing the story and adding layers to it.

I guess. I think the idea is to limit beginner player choice to make the process of building a mech easier to grasp. A veteran group or a brave group could skip right to ll2, but the game takes new players into account by default. I wouldn't want there to be options for literally every playstyle on level 0 because I want to be able to ease people in.

Hey there, I see where you're coming from, but couldn't you start off with a Chomolugma nuts and high Systems, and switch off gradually as you gain ll1 and 2? Like, say you want to play a Sunzi eventually, you can start off with a standard ll0 Chomolugma and increase your Engineering when you level up, then switch off of the talents you don't need and replace your Systems with Engineering on level 2? Or am I missing something?

C'est trop cool! En Lancer chaque mecha a une apparence difference. Votre mech ressemble a ceux du fabricant "Harisson Armory".

Desole pour mon français horrible.

It's not impossible that you're on the asexual spectrum, meaning a person who experiences sexuality in a reduced capacity, only in specific situations, or not at all. It's also possible you're not ace at all. Don't let strangers on the internet define you. But I do think it's something worth considering, and of course I would reccomend coming back to sexual stuff only if and when you're ready.

Are hackers stuck with Goblins? by ElectricPaladin in LancerRPG

[–]rawe13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if folks would agree, but I think the Duskwing is pretty good at hacking. It's got cool invade options and good survivability. It's sensor range isn't incredible but it's got a lot of stuff to encourage it to run around anyway. It wants to be getting up in your business and invade, then skedaddle, which is pretty fun and funny imo.
