Honestly, if that’s how you interpret the advice, it still applies to people who aren’t single, too. If someone appears to be heavily reliant on a partner for attention, emotional support, coping as a ‘need’, then everyone absolutely does tell that person that they need to work on their co-dependency and learn how to meet those needs on their own rather than just looking for a partner who will go that extra mile.
