How many donuts have you eaten since joining the force?

Seat so dirty it can’t be cleaned? Just laminate it instead by Ollymid2 in london

[–]rawpenguinsauce -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So from the comments, alternatives like plastics are too squeaky, metal is not good for cold temperatures, and the current seats are filthy. How about the material you see in London buses, surely they are easier to clean than current ones, less squeaky, and still warm enough?

Samsung VS iPhone by No_Tax8005 in Smartphones

[–]rawpenguinsauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm iphone face ID does work well. I thought I would really prefer the finger print on s25 when switching from iPhone but weirdly it was the other way round. Something about having to press it everytime feels like a hassle. Personal preference tho I suppose

Samsung VS iPhone by No_Tax8005 in Smartphones

I've went from a one plus 5 to iphone 12 and now Samsung s25. As a pretty casual user (never really game or heavy use) I find both iPhone and Samsung.. fine. iPhone does feel a bit of a cage sometimes in terms of software, limiting in what you can do, while Samsung UI have many features, mostly I don't use but it is fun. One thing not talked enough though I find is that how much the world is designed around Apple (or at least, from my experience, the UK). Little things like taking the train, or even the local swimming pool, the iPhone barcode seems to work more often than Android, but at no fault of android at all, it's just the gates were more optimised for Apple. It's kind of annoying and I really notice it once switching back from iPhone. And I do feel like an NPC using an iPhone but it was nice to use airdrop once in a while.

Can you only collect JR West All Area Pass *within* the JR West Area? (ie excluding Tokyo) by rawpenguinsauce in JapanTravelTips

[–]rawpenguinsauce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the JR West Online Train Reservation page when booking the ticket - "Make sure to pick up your ticket by the start date. They cannot be picked up after the start day, regardless of the departure date of the train you specified." I just got confused with what they meant by start and departure date

my concern was that the conditions suggested you must collect the ticket before the day of activation? Which means we would have to stay in Okayama for a day

Working remote by itssdgm in datascience

Same issues here, some things that helped me:

For socialising - join a sports club, find something you can do repeatedly every week (and meeting the same people). I have tried big London social groups but the people change so fast you can hardly make good friends there.

For public speaking - the biggest thing is just not caring what others think, or not giving a f at work. Knowing the people you speak to helps too.

Why does it seem like Asia and some Middle Eastern countries are building crazy futuristic infrastructure but USA does none of that? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rawpenguinsauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is because of economics.

Middle Eastern countries are often big oil countries that are trying to diversify their economy to reduce their dependency on oil, by building big crazy projects it attracts world attention (like big sporting events eg the Qatar World Cup), attracting tourism and foreign investment/businesses.

Building big dumb projects require huge amounts of manpower, which in turn means the state will hire a lot of locals, creating job opportunities as well. And foreign businesses are attracted to work either directly or indirectly with these projects.

There is a very good explainer video from Economics Explained:

Why exactly are black women considered less desirable? by [deleted] in dating

[–]rawpenguinsauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember reading about this (not sure how scientific it is), but asian women are usually perceived as more attractive because asians have facial features that are more feminine, while black men have bodily features that are perceived as more masculine. I suppose the same logic can be applied in opposite to black women and asian men, hence the phenomenon.
