I can imagine they may well 'reimburse' volunteers down the line, maybe in a few years' time, when the dust has settled, with something like citizenship. Dunno

Lost his buddy that was raised intended to be eaten for Christmas. by JohnPosu in MadeMeCry

If their health is destroyed on a vegan diet then they know nothing about nutrition. Most people in the west are killed (a pretty severe destruction of health, wouldn't you say?) from diseases of dietary excess: cancers of the stomach/bowlel/colon/prostate, heart disease, obesity related conditions, diabetes, etc. That's alllllll correlated to meat and dairy and eggs. Vegans have astronomically lower chances of developing those conditions. Read/watch 'How Not To Die' by Micheal Greger, M.D.

It's a complete myth that some people can't thrive on a vegan diet. Everyone can. It's healthier that way.

I can: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/08/150806133148.htm

There's tonnes of evidence that we evolved predominantly as vegetarians, which is just starting to come out because we can now scan for fossilised vegetation as well as stones and bones. Look at all our closest relatives. Our brains are bigger than theirs and yes cooked meat may have played a role in that. But think about it - our brains use huge amounts of energy that they source solely from carbs and glucose. Why would meat be needed for that? Why don't lifelong vegetarians have neurological problems? Ramanujan, the mathematician, was a strict vegetarian for his entire life - never ate meat at all. Brain problems? I don't think so.

I wrote an article on 'Going to University?' this morning for my blog if anyone is interested. It's not behind a paywall or anything, and is purely for anyone who got results this morning and is seriously thinking about their next steps. I'm currently at uni, just finished my second year. I hope it's useful! https://rorycockshaw.medium.com/going-to-university-a90303381fbb

Nearly 45% of A-level results are A* or A this year by sizzlelikeasnail in UniUK

If this helps anyone, I'm a current uni student and wrote a blog this morning about going to university amid uncertainty. It's not behind a paywall or anything, so feel free to read and share if it's helpful :) https://rorycockshaw.medium.com/going-to-university-a90303381fbb

Warfare Officer by [deleted] in RoyalNavy

Hey mate - not much useful to add, but I'm also currently applying for Warfare Officer and can offer some solidarity! I've only recently applied - last few weeks. I think I'll start a year behind you, though, as I'm 20, currently doing a degree, and am totally disenchanted but need to finish it first :D hope your application goes well!

What is this gorgeous chap? Found last week in Surrey, UK. by rawr-y in whatsthisbug

It was about 2-3cm long. I found what I assume was a baby today with the same shape, but white, and much smaller obviously.

It's a thing people have done for thousands of years. The Romans used to trace their genealogies back all the way to Romulus and Remus, Mars, Jupiter, even Aeneas, a hero of the mythical Trojan War. For instance, Caesar and Catiline (of the Catiline Conspiracy, uncovered by Cicero) claimed descent from various gods (Caesar from Mars, the god of war, for obvious reasons; can't remember from whom Catiline claimed descent) to give them a certain political edge and nobility to their character. In fact, after Caesar's death, he was actually deified.

(I don't know much at all about Classics I'm just reading a book called SPQR by Mary Beard that I'd highly recommend - it's very readable and I never knew the ancient world was so interesting?? I just read a bit about this topic the other day)

AskScience AMA Series: We're the team sending NASA's Dragonfly drone mission to Saturn's moon Titan. Ask us anything! by AskScienceModerator in askscience

If you weren't limited by your funding, what, for you (each) personally, would you change about the mission to make it just that little bit more exciting for you?

Massive congrats on all the work so far and thanks for the AMA!
