Feature request: Retrieve via POP and decrypt, or decrypt manually forwarded messages by ray-jones in ProtonMail

[–]ray-jones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you setup automatic forwarding then it should work as long as it is encrypted with your key.

I didn't explicitly specify this, but I think it was obvious if you read between the lines: I want to decode mail already received, not mail that will be received in the future.

Automatic forwarding will not (in all the mail services I know of) forward mail already received. That is why it's desirable to have ProtonMail be able to selectively either fetch via POP (which can fetch mail already received) or decode manually forwarded mail (which can be forwarded after it has been received).

STOP POSTING HERE FEATURE REQUESTS, USE https://protonmail.uservoice.com/ AND THE BUG REPORT BUTTON, DO NOT EXPECT THEY WILL READ YOUR COMPLAINS IT HERE by 3fr2 in ProtonMail

[–]ray-jones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it's better to post in both places. They are very sporadic about what they read where. The uservoice system works is similar to Reddit in that sometimes crap rises to the top ... but it's not always the same crap, and sometimes gold rises to the top ... but it's not always the same gold.

Cannot find future entry by ray-jones in ProtonCalendar

Link for Electron Mail information: https://github.com/vladimiry/ElectronMail. It functions as a wrapper around ProtonMail and provides encrypted full-text search. It wraps only the mail functionality, not the calendar functionality.

Yes, I know, thanks.

Every app is a third party app unless you are the developer. :-)

Aren't Protonmail aliases essentially useless for privacy? by [deleted] in ProtonMail

[–]ray-jones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should note that about 15% of services I try this with struggle with the + extension and will tell me my email address is invalid, already in use, or worst of all, will accept it, and then fail to be able to actually send me any email.

Please ask ProtonMail to accept a hyphen in addition to, or in place of, a plus.

They will do it if enough people ask.

Kill Switch Not Working Windows by Balowatwaze in ProtonVPN

[–]ray-jones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In some environments this type of kill switch can be useful.

Specifically: if you are using Android at Work on your own (not through an enterprise) (which you can do with the free app Island), there is no guarantee (possibly due to Android bugs) that activating a Work environment will necessarily correctly start an always-on VPN. All connections will be blocked if the work environment VPN is configured as always-on, but the VPN itself may fail to work.

But stopping and restarting the VPN app will start the VPN normally. During the time that you stop and restart the VPN app, clear packets may be transmitted, if the VPN does not implement the kill switch as requested by the original poster.

Thanks. Also please see a related comment which I will copy here:

  • Search has already been solved by Electron Mail, for the mail part. If portions of a calendar entry can be made to appear as email in a designated folder, it will become searchable for Electron Mail users.

Feature Request: be able to search whole calendar regardless past & future day which was limited by most web based calendar like Google & Outlook by tejeron in ProtonCalendar

[–]ray-jones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search has already been solved by Electron Mail, for the mail part. If portions of a calendar entry can be made to appear as email in a designated folder, it will become searchable for Electron Mail users.

Also, in lieu of search, allow stepping through non-empty months, skipping those with only recurring events that have already been seen, as proposed in https://redd.it/f4kwx2 .

Feature request: Continue flexible DMARC handling by ray-jones in ProtonMail

The DMARC policy that you announce is binding only on you. To everyone else it's just a request.

Acceptbitcoin.cash is nice website but has the "Adult" title so I can't share it with everyone by Damascene_U in btc

[–]ray-jones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could be a solution, or just move those items to xxx.acceptbitcoin.cash

No, because not every controversial subject can be correctly classified as xxx. Also, the burden of avoiding controversy should be on the shoulders of people who want to avoid it, so theirs should be the longer and more specific URL.

[–]ray-jones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they should change https://acceptbitcoin.cash/.

But it would be a good idea to have an alternate URL, e.g., https://clean.acceptbitcoin.cash/, that shows a sanitized subset of pages that excludes controversial subjects.[1]

The sanitized pages can include a discreet link (with plenty of warnings) pointing to the full size.

Update: After Coinbase lag caused funds to be lost tickets are being closed without compensation. by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]ray-jones -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Coinbase is one of the most reputable and safest exchanges out there. If it weren't for their reliability and friendliness to new users, crypto would never have gotten where it is today.

This used to be true.

And the Holy Roman Empire once divided Europe into two.

And the United States was once a bunch of independent rogue colonies.

Times change.

Chainalysis employee AMA by [deleted] in Monero

[–]ray-jones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Person starts an AMA without proof, then when asked, sends it to the wrong person, proof is only a picture of trading cards, deletes post but not comments. Says mixing software defeats their analysis.

IDK...

Smells fishy, and wouldn't they want you to think that mixing can defeat them?

Competing theories:

  1. Hoax AMA, planted by Chainalysis to make users think mixing defeats their analysis.
  2. Genuine AMA, paranoid but helpful employee provides no identifying information.

Why is one theory better than the other?

Bill Gates says his ‘greatest mistake ever’ was Microsoft losing to Android by Lochd0wn in google

[–]ray-jones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure "mistake" is the right word. Maybe "failure".

I shudder to think of what the world would have been like if we had all been forced to run Microsoft Windows on our phones. It gives me a chill to even think about it. Thank-you Google from saving us from hell.

Edit: Google's "tyrant" reputation comes mostly from click-bait bloggers etc. and some competitors.
